Leader Cawley gets captain’s armband for another term
LONG-SERVING inter-county player Keelan Cawley will continue as the captain of the Sligo Senior Gaelic footballers. The versatile wing-back from CooleraStrandhill is in his 14th year with Sligo at Senior level, having been first called up to the panel in 2009. Cawley, pictured, is a member of An Garda Síochána. He turns 33 this year. He has already made two appearances for Sligo so far in 2022, featuring in the FBD Connacht GAA Senior Football League fixtures against Leitrim and Roscommon. It is understood that a number of vice-captains will be appointed prior to Sligo’s Allianz Football League campaign.
Cawley’s first cousin Jack Haran – who played for IT Sligo against University of Limerick in Tuesday night’s Sigerson Cup first round – is currently part of the Sligo Senior panel. On Sunday last Cawley drew the winning tickets in the draw for the Win a House in Sligo event, a joint-fundraiser for Sligo’s Curry GAA Club and Shannon Gaels GAA Club from Roscommon.
