LOCAL TRANSPORT: The Tubbercurry Access Bus travels to and from Sligo every Wednesday morning picking up people from the place of residence, travelling to Mullinabreena, Coolaney, Ballinacarrow etc. It arrives at

Club is back this Thursday evening in advance of the Easter weekend. The night may be a little different but is not fully confirmed at the time of going to press.
CAFÉ HOURS: The Mill Community Café is open again this weekend but
not on Good Friday. It’s the usual times on Saturday and Sunday – 10am to 2pm. Great to see the space open for business again and to see locals enjoying each other’s company over a coffee and cake.
CLOTHES COLLECTION: The recent clothes collection in aid of the community centre continued for the month of March but is now complete. There was a great response that will no doubt add up to a fine amount of much needed funds for the community centre.
KNITTING GROUP: The return of the local knitting group to the community centre each Monday is a welcome return to parish activities. They are back 10am to 12.30pm each Monday and welcome new members. Please note however, that their next meeting will not take place until
May 9.
GAA NEWS: The men’s season got off to a promising start on Sunday last with a great display against St Farnan’s. This was a junior versus senior game and our local lads stood up very well to the test. It was nice to see new young faces donning the primrose and yellow. All in all, the team shows great promise for the year ahead.
SLIGO GIRLS UNDER-14 CAPTAIN: Local girl, Anna Kate Davitt, captained a Sligo under-14 team who played Mayo in a challenge match at the Community Park last weekend. This was a great honour for Anna Kate in particular and to our parish in general. Well done to her and continued success in time to come. On a similar note, Masshill girl, Sinéad Mooney, captained Glasgow Caledonian University, who beat Manchester in recent weeks to win the colleges British Championship.

The untimely death took place on Sunday, April 3, at Sligo University Hospital of John Lavin, Rathmullen and Ballymote – sincere sympathy is extended to his wife Erin O’Gara-Lyons, son Seán, parents Patsy and Catherine, brother Joe, sisters Mags, Caroline and Trish and to the Lavin and Lyons families, May he rest in peace. The death also occurred on March 5 of Brendan Jordan, Crewe England and Knocknashammer, Gurteen. He was a frequent visitor to Knocknashammer and will be sadly missed by his neighbours there, His funeral Mass was celebrated last Friday in Crewe. Sincere sympathy is extended to his sons Ciaran and Declan, his sister Maureen and their families. May he rest in peace.

April 3, was not won. The €50 prize went to Gabriel Gallagher, Greyfield, Gurteen. The lotto is now €8,700. Proceeds from this goes to the upkeep of the club and the teams.
Bingo is held every Friday night at 8pm in Gurteen Hall with a jackpot of €1,800 in 43 calls. Lotto jackpot raffle €350 and Easter eggs. Proceeds go to the upkeep of the hall and Eastern Harps Club.

RIVERSTOWN
Best wishes to Eiméar Mulvey, who will be taking part in the 2022 Sligo Rose selection tomorrow, Friday, in the Clayton Hotel, Sligo.
24-year-old Eiméar has close ties to Riverstown through family and friends and also through her hugely successful Bróga Bríomhar Dance School where she teaches sean nós dancing.
Eiméar is an internationally recognised sean nós dancer and has won many individual and group awards and titles, most notably winning the senior all-Ireland sean nós title at the Fleadh Cheoil in 2018. Eiméar is actively involved in charity work and recently organised a hugely successful collection in support of the people affected by the war in Ukraine.
Eiméar’s ambition is to one day build her own dance studio. Eiméar is kindly sponsored by JAKO. Tickets for the event are available now and can be purchased by contacting any of the Sligo Rose entrants or by contacting the Sligo Rose Centre.

Aoife Conlon from Geevagh and Rachael Hession from Sligo Town, who were conferred with an Honours Bachelor of Nursing from NUI Galway earlier this month.
Community Games are up and running again. This year some events will not be going ahead for health and safety reasons. Only events listed on form will take place. Riverstown CG Committee have decided to waive this year’s fee as participants would have paid in 2020 but games did not go ahead. The ‘Essential Seconds’ shop in Ballymote needs volunteers to help from Monday to Saturday from 10am to 4.30pm. If you can help out for at least three hours a week, any morning or afternoon, please drop in or apply online and they’ll be in touch.

To help keep Lollipop Day alive in the area after more than two years away due to pandemic restrictions, Lollipop Days are May 6 and seven with the aim to raise vital funds for research and spread awareness of the early symptoms of this very difficult cancer.
Age Action Ireland is actively recruiting volunteer computer tutors for its Getting Started programme in Sligo. Getting started is a volunteer-led Digital Skills course supporting people to get online or navigate smart devices with confidence. The classes are small and volunteer tutors work one-to-one with students. The course runs for two hours once a week for five weeks.
All tutors are volunteers and teach one student at a time in small class groups.
Would you like to be a social buddy to someone? As a buddy you can decide on a range of social activities that are of interest to both yourself and your buddy. You’ll decide with your buddy what activity to do, and you’ll arrange with his or her keyworker as to when the activity will take place. A lovely volunteer role.
HUGG: HUGG Ireland are looking for volunteers around the country to become group facilitators to allow those who have lost a loved one to suicide to express their feelings in a safe environment. By listening to others and being in place of empathy and understanding, they give hope and healing. More information on i-vol.ie.
The Ballintrillick Scout Group is seeking new volunteers to help existing leaders run the weekly clubs and possibly get involved in weekend and school holiday trips. If you’re in the north Sligo area, would you have a couple of hours a week to help out?
Cara Bocce are a Special Olympics Club located in Tubbercurry, Sligo. The club meet on Wednesday from 6.45pm to 7.45pm in St Brigid’s Hall Tubbercurry and they are in need of volunteers to keep the club running. Bocce is the sport run by the club and it is similar to bowls but played on a shorter, narrower green. You do not need a sports qualification to be in this role as it is a general opportunity and training will be provided.

The National Schools of County Sligo (from 1831-1999) is a wonderful and informative research book kept in County Sligo Heritage and genealogy library. It was born out of a conversation in a pub in Curry from local teachers where they had been attending an all-Ireland Teachers meeting, what a legacy.
The GAA club was honoured to host the Lidl all-Ireland Post Primary Schools Final at our grounds between Loreto College Cavan, who played Sacred Heart School Westport in a game which seen some outstanding football in glorious weather,before a capacity crowd Loreto College were the winners on the day on a scoreline of 5-10 to 2-10. In attendance was Michael Naughton, National president of the LGFA where he meet many of the officers of the club and was amazed and fulsome of appreciation at the condition and the standard of the facilities of the complex in such a rural setting.
It was an unique day for Sligo Michael himself a native of Castleconnor, and the manager of the winning team Loreto College is Eastern Harps, Lisa Casey so lots of history made over in the ‘Field in Carrarea’.

One Act all-Ireland Festival which will be held at the end of the month. They will be staging the play in Tubbercurry before the final.
