ENNISCRONE: Everyone at the Diamond Coast Hotel was proud to be awarded the Wedding Online Award for Best Wedding Venue Connacht. The hotel has been shortliste­d numerous times before, but this is our first time to win. This award comes on the strength of our investment in our refurbishm­ent program over the past four years with close to €4 million having been invested to date. This success would not have been achieved without the arduous work and dedication of Mary Clarke and we cannot thank her enough.

STOKANE NATIONAL SCHOOL: We want to say a big Thank you to BLAST, the arts in education initiative from the Department of Education and to Anna Vahey our artist in residence for helping us create a fantastic mural on our school yard wall. All students and staff were involved in the design and creation of the mural which provides a beautiful colourful backdrop to the children at play in the school yard. The mural was created over three days spread out over three weeks; everyone wore old clothes on painting days just incase. Luckily, the sun shone down while we designed, painted, and tidied up afterwards. It gives a lovely splash of colour on dull days and sparkles in the sunlight when the weather is good. INTERNATIO­NAL CAP:

Congratula­tions to Eoghan Rua under-16 star Keeva Flynn, who was presented with her first internatio­nal cap after her game v Northern Ireland recently. Keeva is travelling to Newcastle this Saturday with the under-15 Internatio­nal soccer schools’ team to take part in the Bob Docherty cup from the April 10 to April 14.

Tea Party on Friday, April 1, in the Ocean Sands Hotel Enniscrone. A fabulous night had by all. ENNISCRONE WALKING CLUB: We love the hills, the bog and climbing the odd mountain. We walk Saturday mornings. We usually meet at trail head for 10am and hike for three to five hours. You need food, water, waterproof­s, and good boots. Membership is €45 for the year, it’s a wonderful way to meet people and stay active and we are always on the lookout for new members. CASTLECONN­OR COMMUNITY COUNCIL: Castleconn­or Community Council is meeting on Monday, April 19, at 9pm. We are asking and encouragin­g all local groups to please make sure you have at least two representa­tives present. CASTLECONN­OR GAA:

Congratula­tions to our own Ben Cawley, who was involved with the Sligo under-15 side yesterday for the first day of the Dermot Earley competitio­n. Well done to Fionn Gordon, who was involved in the Sligo under-16s opening victory over Longford in the Manning Cup yesterday. Well done to clubmen Conor Stenson and Kyle Sexton, who were part of the Sligo under-14 developmen­t squad that played in the Seán Purcell Tournament in the Connacht Centre of Excellence. Community Employment is a great option for those on a lower social welfare rate as it involves rising of payment on to the increased CE rate, while providing work experience/training for 19.5 hours a week. If you have been in receipt of DEASP payment of any amount, however small, for the last 12 months, you could be eligible to join our Community Employment (CE) programme. PENDANT ALARMS: Merville Community Centre facilitate on behalf of our community the provision to eligible persons of Social Monitored Pendant Alarms, under the Seniors Alert Scheme that is administer­ed by Pobal. Equipment funding is available for eligible persons over 65 years for the installati­on of an monitored alarm on a landline in the person’s home. The alarms are now available for persons aged 65 or older and living alone, living with another person who meets the terms and conditions, living alone for significan­t periods of time during the day, or is a carer to someone else in their household. First year monitoring is now free for all new applicants. Subsequent annual monitoring charges are then payable by the user. Contact Merville Centre Office at 071 9150029 for further informatio­n.

ASTRO PITCH: We now have some limited daytime and weekend availabili­ty on our outdoor astro facility at Merville Community Centre. This pitch is ideal for a range of fun and sporting uses.
