A Camera in Lockdown

An exhibition of work by QQI Level 5 and 6 students at the Ballagh Centre has opened in the centre in Rossinver, Co. Leitrim.

The class was led by-Strandhill-based photograph­er Peter Wilcock.

The exhibit will run until August 28 (10am until 5pm). Admission is free.

Hazelwood Heritage Walk

Today, Thursday, there will be a Heritage Walk at Hazelwood with the Hazelwood Heritage Society and Coillte Nature.

They expect this to be a relaxed and interactiv­e event, please wear hiking boots or wellies and bring appropriat­e outdoor clothing.

The walk starts at 2.30pm. This is a free event.

Pink Friday at The Swagman

Tomorrow, Friday, the Pink Friday meetup will take place at The Swagman hosted by Outwest.

The OutWest Sligo sub-committee are facilitati­ng this social meet up on the third Friday of each month from 8pm to 11pm.

Join them outside in The Swagman Bar in Sligo for some funky chips or a drink.

Dominican chanting workshop

This Sunday, August 21, come learn to sing medieval Dominican chant at Sligo Abbey.

In this workshop, participan­ts will learn how to sing a selection of chants that would have been sung in Sligo Abbey in the middle ages. At the end of the workshop, they will have the opportunit­y to sing these chants in their original setting of the abbey.

The workshop will take place from 2pm to 4pm.

Tidy Towns event at Green Fort

This Saturday, August 20, Jonathan Cassidy will lead a group of artists of all abilities as they endeavour to capture a scene of their choice from the stunning selection of views afforded by Sligo’s impressive Green Fort in Sligo town.

Due to the sensitive nature of this site, numbers will be limited and therefore participan­ts must book in advance through the Eventbrite website for this Sligo Tidy Towns event. This event will take place from 10am to 12pm.

Throughout the month of August, visit The Model for a guided tour of their exhibition­s.

You can book a tour of Century, one of the largest exhibition­s of work from The Niland Collection to date.

Whiskey tasting at Thomas Connolly

On Thursday, August 25, there will be a Sligo Whiskey Society Fercullen Whiskey tasting master class at Thomas Connolly Bar.

John Cashman, Alan Malone and Adam Holt will take you through the history of the Powerscour­t Distillery while sampling some outstandin­g whiskey.

Tickets are €25 for members and €30 for non-members.

A Night of Grief and Mystery

On Thursday, September 1, an improbable, impossible night of words and music will take place at the Avalon Centre.

A Night of Grief and Mystery combines stories and observatio­ns from Stephen Jenkinson drawn from his work in palliative care with original songs from Canadian recording artist Gregory Hoskins and band.

The two artists have been exploring the intersecti­on of their work for seven years, across three continents, through three recordings and two short films and head out again in the Fall of 2022 bringing with them Adam Bowman on drums, Colleen Hodgson on bass/vocals, and Lisa Hodgson on keys/vocals. Starts at 7.30pm.

Michael Collins at the Omniplex

On Tuesday, September 6, to commemorat­e the 100th anniversar­y of the death of Michael Collins, Fine Gael have teamed up with Omniplex to screen the Neil Jordan blockbuste­r Michael Collins at 7pm.

The first time since its release 26 years ago, the film will be screened nationwide.

This is a special screening and tickets will only be available through eventbrite.ie

Brick expo at Clayton Hotel

On Sunday, September 4, Shamrock Bricks are bringing their Brick Expo to the Clayton Hotel, Sligo. There will be lots of activities for everyone including amazing custom models and official sets on display, Lego play areas, face painting, speedbuild competitio­ns, master builder competitio­ns, Lego colouring area, scavenger hunts, as well as competitio­ns, raffles, vendors and lots more fun activities.

There will be a sensory play area and safe zone making this a socially inclusive and fully accessible event. Ticket prices are €5 for adults,
