Sligo Rovers hosted the The Indian Association of Sligo on Monday at The Showgrounds where they celebrated the 75th Indian Independence Day.
The celebration of Indian Independence Day at The Showgrounds is a long-running annual tradition for the Indian community in Sligo, whose association was founded 16 years ago.
The Bit O’Red’s links with the local Indian community dates back decades thanks to former Summerhill teacher and staunch Rovers volunteer, the late Johnny Chadda.
Between the 1960s until the mid-2000s, Johnny performed various roles within the management committee as well as performing many match night duties whenever a volunteer was required.
Johnny passed away in 2008 but the family connection remains strong as both his children and grandchildren frequently attend matches at The Showgrounds.
