Connacht Gold Inter C’ship Group One – Round One St Molaise Gaels 4-22 Geevagh 0-12

SAINT Molaise Gaels made a definitive statement last Saturday, thrashing Geevagh by 22 points, 4-22 to 0-12, in the opening round of the Connacht Gold Intermediate Football Championship.

The north Sligo side, favourites to emerge from Group One as one of the section’s two semi-finalists, started as they meant to go on – James Heraghty netted after 15 seconds.

Against a Geevagh side relegated from last year’s Homeland Senior Football Championship and a team minus the power and precision of Pat Hughes and Kevin Henry, St Molaise Gaels know that tougher challenges are in store.

Still this game was an exhibition of the winners’ attacking expertise – Michael Langan bagged 1-8, team captain Alan McLoughlin shot 1-6 and James Heraghty supplied 1-2. St Molaise Gaels’ first-half authority
