One more adjournment given in Sligo murder cases
YOUSEF Palani, of Markievicz Heights, Sligo appeared before Sligo District Court via videofrom Castlerea prison yesterday, Wednesday.
He was charged on April 14 with the murder of Aidan Moffit at his home in Cartron Heights, Sligo on April 10 and the murder of Michael Snee at his home at City View, Connaughton Road, Sligo on April 12. Mr Palani is further accused of assault causing serious harm to Anthony Burke at Cleveragh Road, Sligo on April 9.
Sergeant Derek Butler reiterated to the court the accused’s file was so big it had to go to the printing section of Garda Headquarters in The Phoenix Park. He suggested an adjournment until September 15 saying, “we believe it will be back at this stage.”
The Sergeant also told the court members of An Garda Síochána had to cancel their annual leave to get in to work and deal with the case. He assured Judge Brendan Reilly the file was with the Director of Public Prosecution’s office and they were moving it on.
Defending solicitor, Gerry McGovern said his client was in custody since April 14, he had made no application for bail, and they were anxious to have the book of evidence served and move matters on. Judge Brendan Reilly made one more adjournment of the matter until September 15 for Director of Public Prosecution’s directions.
