St Paul’s Church marking 300th anniversary with special concert

-

THE Church of Ireland parish of St Paul’s in Collooney celebrates their 300 year anniversary this year and as part of those celebrations on Friday, September 16, there is a country gospel concert with country singer James Kilbane (8pm start). A special concert was planned pre-Covid and had to be postponed in the September of 2020. However, now it is possible to once again stage the event and the 300-year celebrations are taking place in the Collooney parish. Construction of St Paul’s Church was completed in 1720 and St Paul’s church and parish has been a central point for the community for the past 300 years and church goers continue to host worship for the wider community ever since.

The church and the community have seen many changes in Irish history since 1720. The church has still many original features including the church’s diamond-panel and leaded light stained glass windows.

then enlarged in 1835. It is so important for the Collooney community to mark this very historic tercentenary and the organisers welcome all surrounding parishes and community from near and far to enjoy this evening of music and celebration. The concert with James Kilbane will have a strong emphasis on family and community.

Since 2004 and the ‘You’re a Star’ programme, Kilbane has released a total of 13 successful albums and numerous singles.

In recent months he has been working with television broadcaster Shalom World TV who broadcast across five continents with James’ new programme ‘Rewind with James Kilbane’. He is now multi-platinum selling artist who continues to move musically with the times on the internet and social media music platforms. He is a well known voice on radio, for his country and Christian albums. Kilbane’s music has grown far and wide before and during lockdown in Sri Lanka, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, South American countries as well as North America and the United Kingdom. Kilbane’s home-grown approach attracts many from every walk of life and many Christian traditions. The St Paul’s church concert will include many of his popular songs, including There is a place, Mama’s Roses, Because He Lives, The Richest Man, The Nazarene Song’ and so many more.

Donation tickets are €20 and are available from McKim’s Mace Store, Collooney, any parish member, concert organisers, or direct from Wilfred at 087 7024242.

This will make an ideal event to celebrate the 300th anniversary of St Paul’s church and to mark a local community milestone for this Sligo parish.
