Referee: Gavin Cawley a straight red for Cian Oates, that, despite their careful game management, Coolaney-Mullinabreena almost wrestled a result via route-one plays in the closing stages.

The losers also had 10 wides (compared to Drumcliffe-Rosses Point’s six misses) which indicates that they had opportunities but were often forced to kick long and from awkward positions.

Anyone that overcomes Drumcliffe-Rosses Point will certainly have to earn it.

Group One – Round Two Curry 1-14 Tubbercurry 1-13

IT WOULD take a lenghty PowerPoint presentation, accompanied by a few creamy pints at Howley’s, to go through all the games where Adrian Marren has been Curry’s inevitable saviour.

Here’s another one for this extensive list. The experienced full-forward scored seven points against Tubbercurry, including the stoppage time pointed free that proved the winning score in last Saturday’s Homeland Senior Football Championship Group One epic at Tourlestrane.

Marren’s seventh score, which followed an incident in which Tubbercurry’s Rory Ryan picked up a second yellow card for his foul on the evergreen Curry attacker, ensured that Curry bounced back from their horrible display when losing to Calry-St Joseph’s the previous weekend.

Tubbercurry, who have now lost to St Mary’s and Curry, despite playing well in each fixture, will wonder how they let slip six-point leads in both games. Tubbercurry’s charge at the home of the county champions was led by Aaron Perry, who contributed half a dozen points, with Luke Gilmartin also impressing for John Brogan’s side, so too Brian Curran.

The club that has won the Owen B Hunt Cup a record 20 times were four points up by the 16th minute, but were fortunate that Alan Reilly’s goal chance came off the upright with 20 minutes played.

Tubbercurry then scored three points without reply, with Aaron Perry (2) and Luke Gilmartin on target, but Adrian Marren – the game’s best player – struck a hat-trick of points to cut Tubbercurry’s lead to a point, 0-8 to 0-7, by half-time.

Within eight minutes of the restart a burst of scores from Tubbercurry saw them move six points clear, 1-11 to 0-8. The big score was a goal from

Curry 1-14, Tubbercurry 1-13; St Mary’s 1-14, Shamrock Gaels 1-12; Tourlestrane 2-17, St Farnan’s 3-12; Drumcliffe-Rosses Point 0-14, Coolaney-Mullinabreena 2-5

CURRY: Their outcome of their clash with Shamrock Gaels on Saturday week, September 3, at Bunninadden Community Park (6pm), will go a long way to deciding who finishes runnersup in this already competititve section. TUBBERCURRY: Having lost twice, both narrow defeats, they’ll be looking for some sort of reaction against Calry-St Joseph’s – who beat Curry – at Connolly Park on Saturday, September 3 (6pm).

midfielder Rory Ryan, who completed an excellent team move, while the goalscorer and Luke Gilmartin also pointed.

Curry’s Alan Reilly pointed during this Tubbercurry deluge but Curry looked to be on the precipice of defeat. But Curry replied with three scores of their own, including another score from Alan Reilly, to keep them in the game.

Tubbercurry were four points up with 55 minutes played, 1-13 to 0-12, and Curry needed Adam Gallagher’s goal to spark their late comeback.

The goal stemmed from a long ball played into Adrian Marren and when it broke to Adam Gallagher he lashed it home. Oisin Higgins kicked the equalising point in stoppage time and, at 1-13 apiece, it appeared as if these south Sligo rivals would have to settle for a draw.

Then came the decisive moment – Tubbercurry turned the ball over from a short kick-out, with Adrian Marren making an interception. He was fouled by Rory Ryan, who has lost possession, and then Marren pointed the subsequent free – with Ryan sent off.
