Medals won by Sligo CG areas in arts and culture
FIVE of Sligo’s Community Games areas won medals last weekend in Carlow at the Aldi Community Games arts and cultural national finals. Ballymote, Drumcliffe, Coolera, Coolaney and Skreen-Dromard were the successful areas, with their individuals and teams securing top placings across a variety of disciplines. Two individual gold medals went to Ballymote thanks to the artistic talent of the Devanarayana brothers, Kieran (Boys U-12 Art) and Kevin (Boys U-14 Art).
Drumcliffe’s individual gold was won by Kyle Conlon (Boys U-14 Model Making). Lachlan Gallagher took silver for Drumcliffe – he was runner-up in the Boys U-10 Model Making category.
There were two individual bronze medals for Coolera because of the efforts of Moss Deasy (Boys U-10 Art) and Isabel Sproule (Girls U-14 Art). Cathal Fogarty won Coolaney’s individual bronze – Fogarty was a competitor in the Boys U-12 Model Making event.
Team gold went to Drumcliffe (Mixed U-13 Choir), Coolera (U-12 Group Talent, Modern Dance) and Coolaney (Mixed U-16 Draughts). Drumcliffe were also medal winners in the Mixed U-16 Chess event, taking silver here. The Mixed U-14 Draughts team from Skreen-Dromard, an area from west Sligo, were bronze medallists.
Castleconnor’s Lauren Mulrooney was just outside the medal placings in the Girls U-14 Model Making – she was fourth overall.
Also coming fourth last weekend were the teams from Ballymote (Mixed U-12 Draughts) and Coolera Mixed U-14 Quiz).
