Katie Walsh delivered 2-4 as the green and gold were nine-point winners over Geevagh, 4-11 to 2-8, in last Sunday’s Sligo LGFA Senior Championship fixture.

The home side were reduced to 14 players in the 12th minute of the second-half when Tara Walsh was redcarded.

But this didn’t derail Tourlestrane, despite Geevagh scoring a goal through Katie Davey, one of two substitutes used by the visitors.

This Geevagh goal was later cancelled out by Tourlestrane’s fourth goal when Nicola Brennan scored from close-range.

Geevagh managed a second goal in the closing stages – Grainne Smith on target – to reduce the margin to nine points.

The first-half was a relatively even affair, with Tourlestrane leading by three points at half-time, 1-6 to 0-6. Katie Walsh’s 16th minute goal was the difference between the sides – she finished to the net from a

Tara Walsh assist.

Geevagh had their goalkeeper Emma Cullen to thank for restricting Tourlestrane to just one goal in that first-half. The best of these saves was the one that denied Nicola Brennan.

There were good points for the visitors from Grainne Smith, Stephanie O’Reilly and Sinead McTiernan. Tourlestrane netted twice in the early stages of the second-half – these goals from Tara Walsh and Katie Walsh extended the winners’ lead to 10 points.
