Council pays tribute to duo

SLIGO County Council has passed a vote of sympathy in memory of the former president of the FAI Des Casey.

Proposing the vote, Cllr Rosaleen O’Grady said Mr Casey, who died recently, was held in the highest regard by everybody involved in the world of soccer in this country.

“He was a man of high integrity who contribute­d so much to the sport during his lifetime,” she said.

She paid sympathy to all the family, mentioning his son Pauric in particular. She said Pauric and family live in the Ransboro area and Pauric was a

very valued, hard-working member of the Sligo Rovers FC Developmen­t Committee for many years. Sympathy was also extended to a former member of the outdoor staff with Sligo County Council, Joe Kilcoyne, from Ballinabol­e, Ballymote who was a lorry driver with the outdoor staff.

Cllr Dara Mulvey proposed a vote of sympathy at last week’s council meeting to Joe’s wife, Maureen and the family, and in particular his son Inspector Paul Kilcoyne who has attended numerous Joint Policing Committee meetings with the council.
