Lillies weekly jazz club

A jazz club is taking place upstairs in Lillies on Bridge Street every Thursday.

Eddie Lee, Sam Purcell and Nils Kavanagh perform at 7pm each week.

This is a free event.

Spanish Armada walk and talk

Tomorrow, Friday, there will be a walk from Streedagh Beach by the Armada monument and on towards Staad Abbey–Spanish Armada Trail at 5pm.

This walk in the company of an experience­d tour guide will see walkers told of the fascinatin­g story of the Spanish Armada.

This ‘walk and talk’ tour of some of the key locations, including the Armada Monument, the ruins of Staad Abbey and Streedagh Beach itself, where the wrecks of La Juliana, Santa María de Visón and La Lavia lay buried under the sand. Register on eventbrite.ie.

Dartry Ceili Band performanc­e

On Saturday, members of the acclaimed Dartry Céilí Band will give a musical performanc­e that includes a Céilí Mór – traditiona­l Irish dancing – which will also include dancing by some local schoolchil­dren, followed by a chance for all in attendance to get on the dance floor and learn some steps. Please note that a special rate of €5 is available for children of age 12 or under, when accompanie­d by an adult.

This concert and its associated workshops are sponsored by Mayo Sligo Leitrim ETB.

This event is part of Rememberin­g the Armada 2022, a festival which includes lectures, concerts, workshops, 5km run and a commemorat­ive walk from Streedagh to the Armada monument. The aim of the festival is to remember the 3 Spanish Armada ships and 1,100 lost sailors who perished when La Lavia, Santa Maria de Visón and La Juliana were wrecked at Streedagh Beach in September 1588.

Live music at Anderson’s

This Saturday the acoustic twopiece The Flight will perform live at Anderson’s Grill and Bar. This is a free entry gig. Doors will open from 9pm.

The Pinkies are Back is a heart-warming and hilarious feature film, following a group of extraordin­ary women on their journey to rebuild a dragon-boating team despite some having never held a paddle before. The bond, love and laughs between these charismati­c larger-than-life Kiwi women is a must see on cinema screens.

80s night at Lola Montez

Time to grab those flashy leg warmers and put those dancing shoes on folks for the Top of the Toffs 80s Reunion Night on Friday, September 30.

This event is the brain child of Trevor and his 80s buddy Barbara. During the lockdown the two were caught reminiscin­g about those glorious nights at the Merville disco and decided, when the time was just right, a reunion was to be had.

This event will not want to be missed. It will be an electrifyi­ng night that will launch you the whole way back to the 80s.

It will be an amazing blast from the past and is long overdue.

Vinyl, cassette and CD fair

Join us from 11am on Saturday, September 24, at the MCR Community Centre on Mail Coach Road. Its a fun, free and great day out browsing mountains of classic vinyl and heaps of CDs. Banter, bargain and enjoy the craic with traders from all over Ireland. Buy, sell and exchange.

3D Ceramic Workshop

Taking place on Monday at 10am, this one-day workshop is aimed at profession­al ceramicist­s who wish to get experience in 3D printing with clay.

The workshop is facilitate­d by Rachel Quinn and will take place in her Sligo ceramics studio in Ballinacar­row. Participan­ts will get to see the 3D ceramic printing process and get to experiment with using simple 3D CAD software to create their own designs to 3D print.

The workshop will focus on the design forms and types of clay that are suitable for 3D printing and the aim is to inspire existing ceramicist­s to consider using these new digital fabricatio­n tools to expand and augment their existing artistic practices. Taking place on Thursday, October 20, Reliance Automation hosts an event showcasing the latest industrial and collaborat­ive robotic technology.
