Another show of goal power from Carbury FC in the Super League

Striker Jason Lyons scores a hat-trick as champs beat St John’s in one-sided contest

-

DO CHAMPIONS Carbury FC intend on breaking all Sligo-Leitrim and District Soccer League scoring records this season? Just two games in, it appears that way.

They were 9-0 winners on the weekend before last in the opening round of this season’s Sligo Southern Hotel Super League.

Last Saturday night they again scored nine goals but this time they conceded two in their 9-2 defeat of St John’s FC at MacSharry Park. Jason Lyons scored a hat-trick.

Also finding the net for Carbury were Jason Devaney (2), Chris Kelly (2), Ryan McManus and Steven Armstrong.

Carbury were halfway there at the interval as they led 4-1. St John’s scored a goal in either half through Darren Mills and Conor Brennan.

Two of the four Super League games played last Sunday ended in draws. The first of these stalemates was Cliffoney Celtic’s 2-2 outcome at home with Strand Celtic.

Dylan Martin scored twice for Strand Celtic to give the visitors a 2-0 advantage.

But Cliffoney Celtic, who showed improvement in the second-half, made a comeback with a goal by James Gallagher. The recovery continued with an equaliser from Conor Watters. There was no separating Manor Rangers and Calry Bohs – it finished 3-3 in Manorhamilton. The home side enjoyed the better of the opening exchanges – goals from Brian McDonald and Josh Ritchie gave them a 2-0 lead.

But Calry Bohs responded with goals from Jack McGovern and Eoin Nicholson to make it 2-2 at half-time.

Niall Brady’s goal with half an hour to play put Manor Rangers back in front. Jack McGovern’s goal from an 87th minute penalty earned Calry Bohs a share of the spoils.
