Informal Music afternoon

This Sunday, October 2, there will be an informal music afternoon at The Model, starting at 1pm.

Informal Music Afternoons are presented in partnershi­p with Sligo Baroque Orchestra, where an eclectic mix of music is performed in a welcoming format in The Model’s Atrium space. The ideas behind the concerts are to introduce concert-goers to music that might be outside their normal listening repertoire, to develop a new audience for chamber music of all types and to provide a new platform for instrument­alists from the Sligo area and beyond. Admission for adults is€8/children free.

Locals@Lunch at the Hawks Well

On Wednesday, October 5, as part of their new female-led lunchtime series Locals@Lunch, theatre-maker Miriam Needham presents a variety performanc­e of theatre, poetry, and song at the Hawk’s Well.

Come take a break from your day to enjoy a selection of vignettes, made to inspire, uplift, and entertain. Featuring classic scenes performed afresh, poetry about life after prison, spoken word about migration and songs to soothe your soul. Admission is free and it starts at 1.10pm.

Kieran Quinn theme night

On Thursday, October 6, Kieran Quinn returns to the Hawk’s Well this autumn for a landmark 30th theme night. These shows always entertain and delight audiences and this one promises to be no different. Kieran as always will collaborat­e with the huge community of wonderful musicians to bring together an entertaini­ng, energetic and fun show. Admission is €30/€15 for under-18s. The show starts at 8pm.

The Good Boss at The Model

Today, Thursday, the Sligo Film Society will meet at The Model at 8pm. This week’s showing is The Good Boss. Básculas Blanco, a Spanish company in a provincial Spanish town, awaits a committee visit to decide whether they merit a local business excellence award. Everything has to be perfect when the time comes. Under increasing pressure, the company’s proprietor, Blanco pulls out all the stops to address and resolve issues with his employees, crossing every imaginable line in the process. Tickets can be purchased on the door.

Cherish The Ladies performanc­e

On Thursday, October 6, the Sligo Film Society will meet up and will be viewing Hit the Road.

This film is about a short-tempered father with a broken leg, a boisterous young boy and his older silent brother, a sick dog and a mother trying to keep the peace. This is a family on a road trip somewhere in Iran. But where are they going and why? As they get closer to their destinatio­n, it emerges that this is no ordinary journey. Admission is €8 and €6 concession. Starts at 8.30pm.

80s night at Lola Montez

Time to grab those flashy leg warmers and put those dancing shoes on folks for the Top of the

Toffs 80s Reunion Night tomorrow, Friday. This event is the brainchild of Trevor and his 80s buddy Barbara. During the lockdown the two were caught reminiscin­g about those glorious nights at the Merville disco and decided, when the time was just right, a reunion was to be had. This event will not want to be missed. It will be an electrifyi­ng night that will launch you the whole way back to the 1980s. It will be an amazing blast from the past and is long overdue. LGBTeaQ+ coffee meet up

On Saturday, October 8, there will be a LGBTeaQ+ and coffee meet up at The Blind Tiger from 12pm to 2pm. This meetup is hosted by Outwest Ireland who have been supporting the rights of LGBTQ+ members since 1997.

Change Your Mind Festival

On Sunday, October 9, the most loved and awarded festival promoting Positive Mental Health has returned to Sligo at the Hawk’s Well Theatre.

With more talks with specialist­s, associatio­ns and service users, more music, fun and healthy activities for all the family and so much more. Admission is free. Starts at 11am.

Dolly and Mick at the Hawk’s Well

On Thursday, October 13, the play Dolly and Mick will be showing at the Hawk’s Well at 8pm. Dolly and Mick are returning from a gig. He’s a widower from Limerick, she’s a divorcee from Arkansas. They both know their relationsh­ip is in trouble. Mick thinks they just need a break. Dolly knows the only way to save their relationsh­ip is to give up the act. Finally, Dolly breaks her unexpected news that shocks Mick andthreate­ns to alter the course of their future together. This is a funny, engaging story with a poignant denouement and several live songs that echo the love and hope, disillusio­n and despair, passion and perseveran­ce that colours their story.

Automation and robotics roadshow

Taking place on Thursday, October 20, Reliance Automation hosts an event showcasing the latest industrial and collaborat­ive robotic technology. Hear about features and benefits of collaborat­ive versus industrial technologi­es as well as safety. Featuring Nachi industrial robots, UR cobots, MiR mobile robot & OnRobot end of arm tools.
