More Sligo success at national level of Community Games

THE latest weekend of Aldi Community Games national finals brought with it more success for Sligo, at individual and team level. Last Saturday saw Sligo Community Games areas compete in team events (outdoor), swimming, marathon and cycling categories (the marathon and cycling were on grass) at the University of Limerick.

Two individual gold medals went to the Brett household, with swimmer Fiadh winning the Girls U-8 Freestyle (one pool length) and her brother, Rian, taking top spot in the Boys U-10 Freestyle swim (along one length of the pool). Also winning a medal for Coolera was cyclist Adam Tansey, who was second in the Boys U-14 Cycling on Grass event. Three of the teams representi­ng Sligo won medals. comprised of the following players – Tom Casey, Sean Cashell, Oisin Choo, Briain Cullinan, Charlie Fenton, Mae Fenton, Pearse Gallagher, Michael Harte, Cathal Keane, Aaron Martin, Sarah McDaniel and Luke O’Connor. The team managers were Rob Martin and Phelim O’Connor.

There was bronze for the St Mary’s team that competed in the Boys U-12 Soccer category and the Mixed U-16 Skittles team from St Feichin’s were third overall in their event.

The four Sligo teams that finished fourth were from Coolera (Mixed U-11 Tag Rugby), Riverstown (Mixed U-12 Skittles), Ballymote (Girls U-12 Soccer 7-a-side) and Cornageeha-St Anne’s (Girls U-12 Gaelic Football).

MEDALLISTS: The Bretts, Rian and Fiadh, won gold in swimming categories at the Aldi Community Games national finals held last Saturday at the University of Limerick. The Bretts are members of Coolera Community Games.
