New Opel Astra has German Star-Quality

- By Declan Glynn

THERE is no chance of mistaking the all-new Opel Astra for just another car. Every line and every curve make it clear that this is the future of driving. From the new Astra’s signature ‘Vizor’ face leading the way at the front, to the sheer taut surfaces that give Opel’s all-new hatchback its distinctly sporty and confident stance, every unique aspect makes it stand out from the crowd.

The external design of the new Astra is truly cohesive, and its distinctive style gives it real personality. It is a similar story inside, where Opel’s innovative ‘Pure Panel’ combines a 10-inch digital dash, and a similarly-sized central colour touchscreen. The cabin of the new Astra has been given a digital-detox of all the clutter, and for added convenience, occupants can charge their compatible devices using the integrated wireless charger.

Under the skin, the new Astra uses the latest V3 version of the Stellantis EMP2 platform, which has made it possible for Opel to electrify the new Astra, with a full EV version due to be launched as early as next year.

The new Opel Astra model line-up comprises three variants – SC, SRI and Elite. For now, the engine line-up consists of a pair of petrol units and a single turbo-diesel offering, all of which feature Start/ Stop technology as standard.

On the move, the Astra feels sporty, and it provides the perfect blend of agility and comfort. while the well-judged suspension tackles road imperfections with ease.

The six-speed transmission’s shift action is smooth and precise in its operation, while the suitably-light steering makes easy work of manoeuvring in and out of tight spaces. An impressive array of standard safety, security, comfort and convenience features adorn all trim models in the new Astra, along with the very latest infotainment technology.

The all-new Opel Astra is priced from just €27,995.
