Contest in Tubber
Barrett – from a Shane O’Brien’s assist – kept Coolaney-Mullinabreena in contention.
Curry, who were three points up at half-time, 2-5 to 1-5, nearly goaled before half-time but Adrian Marren sent a shot over the crossbar after good work by Alan Reilly, who was getting more involved and notched an outstanding point after 26 minutes. By the 41st minute Curry had moved five points clear, 2-7 to 1-5, after two more scores from Adrian Marren and Alan Reilly.
Coolaney-Mullinabreena were left to rue two points attempts from Barry Gorman than dropped short into Curry goalkeeper Sean Marren plus a good effort for a point by long-serving forward Shane O’Brien that came off the upright.
Gavin Gorman’s introduction came shortly after his brother Barry’s wonderful point for
Coolaney-Mullinabreena with 43 minutes played – the losers’ first score of the second-half.
Even though boosted by the input of substitute Jack Duffy, who twice pointed, Curry were vulnerable as twice Coolaney-Mullinabreena went close to getting a goal that they so desperately required – Gavin Gorman’s goal shot was blocked by Craig Gallagher and then Barry Gorman lashed a shot over from a tight angle. Battling Coolaney-Mullinabreena continued to seek a way back using direct ball into Curry’s goalmouth. Gavin Gorman fisted wide from a goal chance – after fellow substitute Darren Coleman landed a dangerous ball into the mixer – with a minute left. It was fitting, for those who see such signs, that a relieved Curry should wrap up their scoring with a pointed free from Oisin Murphy, Red Óg’s brother, in added time.
