Strolling through Ulysses
On Wednesday, October 26, the play Strolling Through Ulysses will be performed at the Hawk’s
Well. Ulysses is considered one of the greatest novels ever written. Celebrating its 100th birthday they welcome writer, actor and Joycean enthusiast - Robert Gogan is on a mission to bring the fun-filled story of Bloomsday and this iconic work to the world at large. This entertaining show presents extracts of the work and guides you through the curious events and quirky characters of Ulysses, in a humorous and informative manner, presenting the comical, the descriptive and the complex aspects of Joyce’s writing – without compromising the integrity of the great book. Pink Brunch at Blind Tiger
On Saturday, October 29, there will be a Pink Brunch at The Blind Tiger. Pink Brunch particularly around breast cancer awareness and the Charity event runs on helping raising money for Sligo Cancer Support Centre, where they offer a place of peace and hope. A place where you and your family can access one to one support and information in a caring and tranquil environment in the North West of Ireland. It’s October and it’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Tickets are available at The Blind Tiger Café or at the door on the day. Ticket is €15 - which include sweet treats, sandwiches and a beverage (everything Pink themed)
Family Day at The Model
On Sunday there will be a Portrait Lab Family Day at The Model. An exciting and fun family day led by artist Geraldine O’Neill, for children of all ages and their parents. Using charcoal, light and shadow, go on a journey with the artist and make your very own experimental self-portrait. Workshops will run throughout the day. Just bring a photograph and your creative self. Afterwards, be the first to discover the exhibition Portrait Lab as a new kids’ explorer guide is launched over the weekend. All materials provided. Available time slots include 11am to 12.15pm, 12.30pm to 1.45pm and 2.30pm to 3.45pm. Admission is free.
Flower Festival at Methodist Church
On Friday, October 14, to Sunday, October 16, County Sligo Flower and Garden Club Flower Festival will take place in the Methodist Church from 1pm to 5pm.
Susan O’Neill at the Hawk’s Well
On Sunday, October 23, Susan O’Neill will be performing at the Hawk’s Well Theatre for Sligo Live. Susan O’Neill is a songwriter of hidden depths, with a timeless voice she is audacity personified. With the success of ‘In The Game’, her 2021 collaboration album with Mick Flannery, and having wowed huge festival stages over the past few years as guest to various performers, Susan has also been honing her craft as a solo performer. Study seminar for parents
On Wednesday, October 19, there will be a seminar for parents trying to help their child study in Sligo Park Hotel at 8pm.
This seminar aims to inform parents of some of the key areas of importance so that they can help their own son or daughter with their studies.There will be a 45-60 minute talk where Dr. Sean Lally introduces some strategies that you can directly use and bring back to your students at home.
He will cover topics such as why learning is misunderstood, how the brain tricks us when it comes to studying (and how we can overcome this), developing focus in a world full of distraction, the areas where we can make the most immediate and impactful gains the difference between goals and systems and where we should be concentrating and more. It is his intention to provide valuable information to parents so that they can help encourage their sons and daughters to make the most of their time when it comes to studying.
LGBTeaQ+ meetup next week
On Saturday, October 22, there will be a LGBTeaQ+ meetup at the Blind Tiger from 12pm to 2pm. This event is hosted by OutWest who have been supporting the LGBTQ community since 1997.

The Minister of State at the Department of Rural and Community Development has taken part in an initiative by Sligo PPN to capture Sligo life through the lens by community groups. Minister Joe O’Brien who has special responsibility for Community Development and Charities took part in the initiative that invited 500 community groups across the county to tell their story on their smartphone. In choosing the overall winner, Minister O’Brien said the photo by Ruth Le Gear from Sligo Children’s Community Garden depicts the wonder of intergenerational storytelling. The Minister says, “Modern Life does not always allow the learning and interaction between generations that were taken for granted in times past. This is a really important picture that facilitates the interaction, and its impact is encapsulated beautifully in the playful pose by the grandfather with the Elderflower on his nose!”
