Gurteen lead Premier League after mighty win

-

GURTEEN Celtic are the new leaders of the Sligo Pallets Premier League. Last Sunday they recorded one of the biggestever wins in the history of the Sligo-Leitrim and District Soccer League – a 16-0 hammering of bottom of the table Valley Rovers.

Thomas Sweeney led the way in this home win for Gurteen, scoring five times, with Dylan Walsh, who bagged a hat-trick, Conor Walsh (2), Billy Flynn (2), Nathan Dwyer, Luke Devaney,

Matthew Tansey and Declan Flynn also on target.

Gurteen exploited previous leaders Ballymote Celtic’s 3-2 loss last Friday night to second from bottom Chaffpool United at Ballisodare’s astroturf pitch. This was Ballymote’s first defeat in seven games. Chaffpool’s goals came from Hughie

Marren, Stephen Connolly and Cathal Brennan. Cian Kilcoyne and Stephen Healy were the goalscorers for Ballymote – Kilcoyne has now scored 15 times for Mark Irwin’s team.

Glenview Stars, who are third in the standings, lost 3-2 away to Kilglass-Enniscrone United.

The hosts were in front through Oisin Finnerty’s 18th minute goal – which was cancelled out by Thomas Myers after 28 minutes. Oisin Finnerty’s second goal and a goal by Ronan Martin put Kilglass-Enniscrone 3-1 up. Glenview narrowed the gap when Clive Brennan scored in the last minute.

Ballygawley Celtic’s scheduled home game against Dromahair FC had to be switched to Dromahair’s all-weather pitch – the home side won 3-1.

All four of the game’s goals came in the second-half. Hughie McGowan’s goal put Ballygawley a goal up. But this sparked a revival from Dromahair, who equalised and went ahead via a brace from Sean Conlon. Dromahair’s third goal was scored by James Clinton.

Calry Bohs Reserves won

2-1 away against Strand Celtic

Reserves. Donnacha Beirne’s goal put Strand in front, with Dario Williams levelling matters for Calry, who scored a decisive second goal with six minutes of normal time left when Joe Kilcullen netted.

Meanwhile, the clash of Benbulben FC and Carrick Town finished 1-1 at MacSharry Park. The goalscorers here were Oisin Gilmartin (Benbulben FC) and Gary Regan (Carrick Town). Gilmartin’s goal came from a converted penalty.
