Sligo e-bike scheme selected for support as part of Pathfinder Programme
MINISTER for Transport Eamon Ryan last week announced support for 35 exemplar transport projects via the Pathfinder Programme, which is to play a key role in the 50% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in the transport sector by 2030.
Bolt’s Sligo Shared Electric Bike Scheme has been included as one of the 35 transport projects in the Pathfinder Programme.
Commenting on the new Pathfinder Programme, Head of Public Policy for Bolt Ireland, Aisling Dunne, said: “Bolt welcomes the announcement of the new pathfinder programme by Minister Ryan. The announcement is particularly timely given the recent European Commission report that states Ireland is the second most dependent country on private cars in the EU.
“Research conducted by Bolt indicates that over one third (38%) of Irish drivers wish to reduce their number of car trips. The primary purpose of this trial is to establish whether an efficient and convenient e-bike scheme will help to support and encourage the desired shift from private car towards sustainable shared transport alternatives.” She added: “This Pathfinder Programme will facilitate the expansion of the pilot scheme through the provision of charging docks in two locations in Sligo town and will build on the learning gained from the pilot to inform the development of shared e-bike schemes in similar sized towns.”
