Double success for Coláiste Muire Choir at Derry festival

ON Sunday evening last at the Closing Gala Concert of City of Derry Internatio­nal Choir Festival, the Coláiste Muire School Choir were announced as the winners of the Bishops Daly and Mehaffey Award for an outstandin­g performanc­e in the school competitio­ns. The award was presented by the Derry Inner City Trust. This was in addition to Coláiste Muire’s silver award at the competitio­ns on Friday.

The choir participat­ed in the competitio­n for three and four-part secondary school choirs and also participat­ed in the Post-Primary School Big Sing workshop with Finnish choral group Rajaton. Coláiste Muire Choir performed Daniel, Servant of the Lord and a setting of the poem A Red, Red Rose by Scottish poet Robbie Burns for an internatio­nal panel of adjudicato­rs at the Millenium Forum in Derry last Friday.

Later that afternoon the Coláiste Muire Choir performed at the Foyleside shopping centre.
