BALLYMOTE RESOURCE CENTRE
CONFIDENCE IN THE KITCHEN: A six week nutrition and food awareness course for 9-12 year olds will be running at Ballymote FRC. This course will be running on Saturdays 10.30am-12 noon, from November 5 to December 10.
The total cost of the course is €30.
MUSIC CREATION WORKSHOPS: Music workshops will be held at Ballymote FRC on November 2 and 3 from 12.30pm until 4.30pm.
These workshops will include how to build musical instruments and how to record music.

DESIGN YOUR OWN GIFTS: This class will include how to make memory books, wreaths and jewelry.
This five week class will be running Mondays 7-9pm, starting Monda, November 7.

PENDANT ALARMS: Merville Community Centre facilitates on behalf of our community the provision to eligible persons of Social Monitored Pendant Alarms, under the Seniors Alert Scheme that is administered by Pobal. Equipment funding is available for eligible persons over 65 years for the installation of an monitored alarm on a landline in the person’s home. The alarms are now available for persons aged 65 or older and living alone, living with another person who meets the terms and conditions, living alone for significant periods of time during the day, or is a carer to someone else in their household. First year monitoring is now free for all new applicants.

ANNETTE’S HAIR SALON: Would like to thank everyone who helped, donated and took the time to come to the Hospice Coffee Morning, a great turnout this year the the amount raised was €828.56 well done to all. Looking forward to doing it all again next year.

LOCAL TRANSPORT: The Tubbercurry Access Bus travels to and from Sligo every Wednesday morning picking up people from the place of residence, travelling to Mullinabreena, Coolaney, Ballinacarrow etc.
It arrives at Tesco car park at approximately 11am and departs again from the car park at 1pm.
This is a great service that allows people to avail of their bus pass.

ST JOHN’S FUNDRAISER: Great to see the development is progressing well with the solar powered lighting, fencing surfacing installed recently. HURLERS HONOURED: It may be hard to believer but a number of local lads were on the first Sligo team ever to will an All-Ireland final at GAA headquarters in Croke Park. The team was the U-16 Sligo hurling team of 1971 (who beat Armagh), and included Pete McIntyre. A year earlier the team lost in the final but that team included Myles McIntyre and John Francis Gildea. The boys on both teams (1970 and 1971), came largely from south Sligo and were coached by Jarlath McDonagh, a teacher in Tubbercurry Vocational School at that time. Players from these teams were honoured at last Sunday’s County Hurling Final where the late Myles McIntyre was represented by his daughter, Sarah. HOSPICE FUNDRAISER MILL CAFE:
All income from the weekend of November 4 to November 6 will be donated to North West Hospice Sligo. This will represent the various Coffee Mornings that took place locally in the past. Other sale items such as CDs and Christmas decorations, contributing to the fund, will also be on offer through that weekend at the Community Cafe.
CARD GAME: The ‘25’ card game is back; taking place in the Community Centre every Monday night at 8.30pm. New players are always welcome; to learn and participate in the old tradition.
MILL CAFÉ: The community cafe continues as usual next weekend with the usual opening times of 11am on Friday and 10am on Saturday and Sunday. Some volunteer spaces have come up on the rota – especially for Fridays. Contact Rita or Attract if you would

FREE MUSIC SESSION: This Thursday sees yet another night of music and song at the Community Centre with the local guitar club. This very entertaining session is free of charge and open to all singers and musicians. Set out in a cabaret style setting, the session always throws up a few interesting guests.
SCARY MARKET: Achonry Farmer’s Market promises to be a very interesting place this Saturday October 29. Halloween will be celebrated in no small measure with Fancy Dress and Pumpkin Carving competitions for young and old and lot of prizes to be won by those attending – 10am to 1pm.
HEART OF THE COMMUNITY: The Heart of the Community Fund 2022 aims to continue that vital support with a fund of at least €500,000.
The Heart of the Community Fund 2022 offers awards up to €20,000 for small, not-for-profit organisations with an annual turnover of less than €3,000,000 / £3,000,000. Awards will be offered in the following 3 tiers: €5,000, €10,000 and €20,000.

Our Drugs and Alcohol misuse
counselling service, runs all year round, supporting those and their families with addiction issues. The Outreach workers are based in Sligo Northside and in Cranmore. MEDIATION: In addition, we run a successful community mediation service which was established to serve the needs of those in Sligo Communities who are in conflict. This is a great service to have in the community. During the pandemic we received a lot of enquiries for family mediation and we were successful in securing funding for additional training for our mediators from
Sligo Leader Partnership Ltd. FILM MAKING AND EDITING COURSES:
We run free Filmmaking and editing courses throughout the year in partnership with MSLETB. All courses are QQI accredited and offered at introductory Level 3 and Level 5 for those with more experience. The courses offer participants the chance to learn a wide range of skills necessary for the film industry, from script writing to Sport & and. Recreation. Sligo Sport & and Recreation Partnership have funded some much appreciated programmes from our Pre- School Afterschool programme to Chair exercise for the Vintage years. Northside are working in partnership with Sligo Sport & and Recreation Partnership to identify and provide other possible programmes to different sectors of the community.
M-PACT: You don’t have to be addicted to suffer from addiction. Moving Parents and Children Together (M -PACT) supports families to work together, helping to improve family relationships. A FREE eight-week programme will begin Tuesday October 25 2022 at 6.30pm in the Northside Community Centre. PLAYGROUND MEETING: Riverstown Community Playground, ballcourt and picnic area is a beautiful amenity in the heart of the village for the use of both the community and visitors to the area. While the playground caters for toddlers and children the picnic area, the ballcourt provides teenagers and young adults with a local and convenient meeting area. Chapels Garden has been serving the community for many years and to ensure that it can continue to do so there will be a meeting on Wednesday, October 26 at 8pm in Little Buddies Childcare Centre to discuss these amenities. Anyone wishing to get involved with this excellent community facility would be very welcome.
HALLOWEEN PARTY: Arrow Harps FC are hosting a Halloween Party/ Disco on Monday, October 31 from 7pm to 9pm in Riverstown Hall. Open to all children under 12 years. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Admission €5 per child. Fancy Dress (prizes for best). Loads of party games, Disco. Great fun guaranteed.
FIDDLE COMPETITION: The Fiddler of Dooney fiddle competition taking place in The Methodist Hall, Sligo, on Saturday, October 29 and Sunday, October 30 and will award a Scholarship to Scoil Eigse in honour of Aishling Murphy, who competed several times in the Junior competition.
SCARE IN THE PARK: Whether it’s a trick or a treat, it’s time to get dressed up and enjoy a (slightly) spooky visit to the Sligo Folk Park this Halloween, Sunday, October 30 at 2pm. Meet friendly Ghosts and Zombies, have your face painted by the master witch or create some slime and visit Frankenstein’s workshop. There will also be a petting zoo, arts, crafts, activities and much, much more. This year’s Pumpkin carving competition is now open and free of charge to everybody attending the event. Just bring the finished masterpiece to the Park Reception on Saturday, October 29 and it will be displayed during the event. The pumpkin carving champion will be chosen on Sunday. Admission: Adults €5, Children €10. SHAMROCK GAELS AWARDS:
Shamrock Gaels held their 50th Anniversary Celebration Dinner Dance recently in the Clayton Hotel. The special guest on the night was Pat Spillane and his wife Rosari. In his address on the night, Pat paid a special tribute to Evan Lyons, recognising him as one of the best defenders in the country. Shamrock Gaels were delighted to learn of the selection of Evan Lyons on the Tailteann Cup team of the year. This is a fully deserved award and a proud moment for Evan’s family, Shamrock Gaels and Sligo GAA. Covid-delayed medals were presented by LGFA Chairperson, Raymond Carden, to the Junior Ladies who won the 2020
Junior Championship. The Men’s U19 B Championship winners’ medals were presented by Sligo
GAA County Board Chairperson, Sean Carroll. The Men’s Junior A Championship medals were presented by Pat Spillane. Player of the year winners were: Senior, Ben Tuohy, sponsored by the Boyd family; Junior A, Steven Willis, sponsored by the Connolly family; Junior B, Paul Leydon and U19, Dylan McKenna, sponsored by the Galvin Family. The Devina Duncan Memorial Cup was presented to the Ladies Senior Player of the year, Aoife Morrisroe by Cara Tighe. This year a new award was presented by the Lyons family, in memory of John, to Club members who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to the club. This year, recipients were the team that organised the
5K a Day in May fundraiser, which not only raised over €28K for the North West Hospice but also was an event that gave a purpose to club members at the start of the covid pandemic. They were Mark Tuohy, Frank Quinn, Mark Boyd, Brian Boyd, Niall Henry and Paul Higgins. Thanks to the Lyons family for their kind sponsorship of this award which is now an annual award. The club also made a special presentation to Lee Deignan who was part of the historic Sligo U20 Connacht Championship winning team and Paul Higgins who was part of the management team. Thanks to all those on the executive committee who put a huge effort into organising this event and ensuring its success.

STONEPARK CHALLENGE: Stonepark warrior challenge returns Sunday October 30 at 2pm- registration from 1pm at Cloonloo Hall. COLEMAN CENTRE EVENTS: The Coleman Music Centre, Gurteen will have host a concert with Liam O’Maonlai who will be joined by Kathleen Macinnes vocals and Alana MacInnes pipes and flute from the Outer Hebrides for this special performance. EUCAHARISTIC ADORATION: Each Wednesday there is an opportunity in the parish to spend some time in Eucharistic Adoration. NOVEMBER MASSES: The November Masses envelope for the dead is included in your offertory box of envelopes. These can be returned in the offertory donation boxes in the churches any time between now and November 1. 12 masses will be offered (six in each church) during the month of November for the Holy Souls. 25 CARD GAME: 25 Card Game resumes in Cloonacool Community Centre on Monday night at 8.30pm. We are delighted that our card game is back and look forward to welcoming lots of old and new faces on the night.
CONFIRMATION: We have a date for the celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation in Cloonacool. It will be on Saturday, March 25, 2023. Time to be finalised but possibly 11am. We wish every blessing to the boys and girls of St. Michael’s NS and their teacher as they prepare for this special day. We remember all the children and their families in our prayers. May the Holy Spirit guide their journey.
NOVEMBER REMEMBRANCE: On Sunday, November 20, we will have a Remembrance Service at 6pm in Tubbercurry Church.
In the meantime, we will try to contact the families of all who died in the parish since November 2021, inviting them to attend but all are welcome.
CONNECT CAFE: Tubbercurry Family Resource Centre hosts a community café the first Thursday of every month. The next Café is November 3rd open from 11am to 1pm. There is no charge for the café but small donations are accepted and go back into the Café. If you want to get out of the house for an hour, are new to the area, are caring for someone and need some time to yourself or perhaps to bring that person our for a cuppa. This café is for you. Friendly faces await with a cuppa and a listening ear! We look forward to welcoming new and familiar faces.
ACHONRY CAMINO: Calling all 18 – 30 year olds – The Achonry Camino takes place on Sunday 30th October meeting at Knocknashee Community Hub at 11am.
The route will take us from the Hub towards Court Abbey, then to climb Knocknashee and return to the Hub, where there will be a debriefing session followed by refreshments.
There will be a short passage of Scripture for reflection along the way and a guided tour of the Abbey and an opportunity for shared reflection on the experience on the return to the Hub. The whole event should take approximately two hours.

Saturday evening at 8pm in Curry Church, which will be followed by refreshments and music in Howleys.. On Sunday there will be a game at the pitch over in Carrarea at 2pm followed by light refreshments in the Clubhouse and later on there will be a Gala dinner and presentations in the Yeats County Inn, Curry at 8pm. CURRY FAIR FUNDRAISER: A Barn dance will take place in Howley’s, Curry on Saturday from 9pm with music by Mary Kathleen and BBQ. Raffle tickets will be for sale on the night with lots of prizes to be won, donated by local businesses.
