American Drifters return to Sligo for Park Hotel concert

- By Sinead Moran

ON November 24, the American Drifters will be performing at the Sligo Park Hotel, along with special guest, Desi Egan. The Drifters are one of the most iconic of all R&B/ soul vocal groups. They were originally formed as a backing group for Clyde McPhatter, formerly the lead tenor of Billy Ward and his Dominoes in 1953. The second group of Drifters formed in 1959 led by Ben E. King. After 1965 members drifted in and out of both groups and many of these formed other groups of Drifters as well.

All the chart topping hits of the world-famous group from New York City will be sung on the night.

Desi Egan is no stranger to Irish music.

He has played piano and sang with many national and international stars in the Irish music circuit as well as producing some fantastic recordings over the years.

He enjoyed global success this summer where he received huge airplay with a fantastic version of the old classic ‘Summer Wine’, a duet he sang with renowned singer and TV star, Catriona O’Sullivan from Ceol Tire.

As an artist whose career took off in Sligo, Desi is delighted to be back in the place that shaped his life as a musician.

Tickets for this concert are still available and can be purchased from www. ticketmaster.ie.
