Glowing HIQA report for Collooney centre

A HIQA inspection at ‘Hazelwood’, Collooney, Co. Sligo, carried out on August 3, 2022 has given the centre a glowing report.

Located in Collooney, ‘Hazelwood’ is a single house provides a full-time residentia­l service for four people. This designated centre received full compliance with regulation 27: Protection against Infection.

The report states: “On inspection it was noted that the provider had ensured that there were strong measures in place for the prevention and control of infection.

“There was extensive guidance and practice in place in the centre to control the spread of infection and to reduce the risk of Covid-19 infection. This included adherence to national public health guidance, staff training and daily monitoring of residents’ temperatur­es.

“There was a wide range of informatio­n about Covid-19 available to guide staff.

“The kitchen, bright and comfortabl­e, was well equipped with readily cleanable and suitable equipment for cooking and food storage. “Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) was in plentiful supply in the centre and all staff wore appropriat­e PPE, including face masks, as required.”

The report added: “The centre is in a rural village but is close to a large town and coastal area which gives residents good access to a wide range of facilities and amenities. “The centre suits the needs of residents and provides them with a safe and comfortabl­e living environmen­t. “The centre is modern, clean, spacious, and suitably furnished and decorated.

“It has been establishe­d for a specific age group of residents and is laid out and equipped to meet their specific needs.

“Suitable facilities, furniture and equipment is provided to meet the needs of residents. Some features of the building enhance the levels of safety and comfort for residents.”
