Chadwicks lends its support to local family on DIY SOS

-

CHADWICKS is providing support to Coolaney local Claire Carpenter and her family in the third series of DIY SOS: The Big Build Ireland. Chadwicks, who have a store based in Finisklin, are the exclusive building materials supplier to the show, providing a wide range of materials to facilitate a significant refurbishment of the Carpenter-Mannion family home and garden to make it fully accessible in just nine days.

Products provided include plumbing materials, doors and door accessories, insulation, plasterboard, steel, timber, hire equipment, roof windows, hardwood and garden materials. Having met in Sligo town 15 years ago, Claire Carpenter and Ross Mannion quickly became inseparable. After a few years, the pair moved to Claire’s hometown of Coolaney, where they went on to have three children, Luke (14), Anna (11) and Zach (8).

Dad Ross now works as head coach of the Connacht senior women’s rugby team after a successful career playing for and coaching Sligo RFC. Youngest child Zach shares Ross’s obsession with Lego, while daughter Anna is an animal lover with three rabbits and a cat, and eldest child Luke enjoys music and helping out in his grandfather’s record shop.

On February 10 of this year, tragedy struck when Claire suffered a stroke and was taken to Beaumont Hospital for immediate treatment. Following several surgeries, Claire has been able to regain some of the movement on the left side of her body thanks to the help of the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Dublin where she has been since July.

Hopeful about returning home in the near future, Claire’s ongoing rehabilitation and independence is currently partially wheelchair dependent and their Coolaney home was not accessible. Considerable adaptation was required to facilitate Claire’s rehabilitation needs, as well as creating a comfortable environment for the whole family to enjoy.

Showcasing its commitment to Irish communities, the Chadwicks team was on hand to support presenter Baz Ashmawy and the DIY SOS crew at the Carpenter-Mannion family home as they worked to transform it to suit the family’s specific needs.

Commenting on the announcement, Gary Kelway, Chadwicks Sligo branch manager, said: “The team at Chadwicks Sligo is thrilled to be involved in the third series of DIY SOS: The Big Build Ireland. Supporting the local Carpenter-Mannion family during this time is particularly important for the team.

“We were incredibly touched by Claire’s story, and hope that the changes made to the home will provide Claire with the comfort and independence she requires.”

Now in its third series, DIY SOS: The Big Build Ireland has gained national acclaim for its inspiring renovations for families in need. In each episode, an army of volunteer builders, labourers, tradespeople, suppliers, friends and neighbours come together to give their time and labour to support a local family.

DIY SOS: The Big Build Ireland series three will air on RTÉ in March 2023.
