Sligo’s Allan Mulrooney named as new interim chief executive of Western Development Commission
SLIGO native Allan Mulrooney, has been announced as the new Interim Chief Executive of the Western Development Commission. Allan Mulrooney steps in to fill the void left by Tomas O’Siochain who stepped down in September after four years in the role.
The Western Development Commission - which is based in Ballaghdereen - said the decision of the board was made as the most viable option to continue work in all key areas until the position is permanently filled.
Allan had been the Head of Communications and Atlantic Economic Corridor Development since 2019 where he headed up noteable initiatives as well as overseeing a full rebrand of the agency.
Commenting on the decision to select Allan Mulrooney as his temporary successor, Tomas O’Siochain said: “I would like to congratulate Allan on his appointment as Interim CEO. Allan brings a wealth of experience to this role, particularly in the ongoing and planned work of the WDC and already has an excellent working relationships with key regional and national stakeholders in the regional development sector.” Looking ahead to his new role, Allan Mulrooney commented: “It is an honour to accept the position as Chief Executive on an interim basis. Our mission will not change, and I look forward to working with my colleagues across the wider WDC team and the Department of Rural and Community Development. It is vital that we continue to stimulate businesses, support innovation, build new partnerships and foster a vibrant ecosystem across the region at this critical time.”
