Carbury a lifeline.

MCR were under pressure, for sure, but goalkeeper Lorcan Callaghan handled well and they had time for one last raid – a corner that led to Bradley Fowley getting a shot on target.

The night belonged to MCR, who, with nine wins, zero losses and 38 goals scored so far, look as good as any previous challengers to Carbury’s hitherto untouchable throne.

This was the kind of result that MCR needed and, with the campaign sure to throw up surprises down the track, at least they know what they’re capable of. It helped that they have capable players all over the pitch, with the know-how of Gary Rooney, Keith Nibbs, Paul Lynch and Gary McCartney especially useful in a side that has several talented but younger players. Centre-back Rooney, in his early 40s yet still assured, was forced off with an injury early in the second-half but MCR coped.

The key for MCR is to approach their next game with a similar resilient attitude. They have to pretend that they’re playing Carbury every week. Carbury, third in the table, are 11 points off the pace. With two games in hand on the leaders as well as proven performers throughout their team, they will expect to be in the mix in the coming weeks and months.

But they were rattled in the scoreless first-half as MCR went at them.
