Four Sligo takeaways vying for Just Eat Awards regional title

FOUR eateries based in County Sligo have been shortliste­d in the regional section of the annual Just Eat Awards.

The awards, launched this week by Irish television personalit­y Muireann O’Connell (pictured), celebrates the country’s best takeaways across a range of cuisine.

Sligo Fish and Chips (Mail Coach Road), Roberto’s (Market Street), Andersons Grill and Bar (Kempton Promenade) and Great Chienese Takeaway (Mail Coach Road) have all been shortliste­d in the Connacht section of the Best Regional Award. Some familiar names are also in the running for Best Chain as McDonald’s Apache, Supermacs and Subway, who all have a premises in Sligo, are competitin­g for this particular title.

Making greatness is the theme of this year’s awards in recognitio­n that for restaurant­s, creating and preparing delicious food is more than just a job – it’s an art.

People in Sligo can now vote for one or more of their favourite local restaurant­s.

Voting closes on December 31 and everyone who casts a vote will be in with a chance to win free takeaways for a year with Just Eat.

Over 68,000 public votes were cast in 2021, making it the highest year to date, and Just Eat is hoping to surpass these figures this year. Votes can be cast by visiting www.just-eat. ie.

I would like to encourage people all over Ireland to support their local restaurant­s and cast their vote before December 31 to show their support for this year’s highly deserving finalists.”

The Just Eat Awards winners will be announced at a gala ceremony in Dublin hosted by Muireann O’Connell in February 2023.

ATLANTIC Technologi­cal University and St Angela’s College will welcome prospectiv­e students and their families tomorrow, Friday (9am-1pm), and Saturday (10am-2pm), for open days at the campuses.

These open days are an opportunit­y to discover all that ATU and St Angela’s College have to offer as a third-level university option. Interested students and their families are encouraged to attend, as a packed schedule of events will ensure no questions remain unanswered.

A free bus service will operate between both Sligo campuses on each day to ensure visitors will have the opportunit­y to talk with academics, current students and the student support teams from across ATU and St Angela’s. Visitors will get to see firsthand the campus facilities through a mixture of interactiv­e workshops, demonstrat­ions and campus tours. A second bus will tour the purpose-built student villages which surround the ATU Sligo campus throughout each day to give applicants a sense of the many options available to stay in
