A SPECIAL concert for charity will be taking place at Castle Dargan in December.

The Christmas Concert in aid of North West STOP - organised by Aoife Armstrong - will be held on December 15 with a number of musicals acts making guest appearance­s.

Among those already confirmed to be performing are Jonathan Carter and Karen Gordon.

Tickets are €20 each and all proceeds from the tickets and the raffle on the night go to North West STOP Suicide Prevention. Doors open at 7.30pm and the concert starts at 8pm. There will be mulled wine, teas/coffees and treats to get everyone into the magical mood. It is sure to be a fantastic night, with some beautifull­y gifted performers singing your favourite Christmas songs, sure to get you all in the festive spirit.

Merville Community Centre facilitate­s on behalf of our community the provision to eligible persons of Social Monitored Pendant Alarms, under the Seniors Alert Scheme that is administer­ed by Pobal. Equipment funding is available for eligible persons over 65 years for the installati­on of an monitored alarm on a landline in the person’s home. The alarms are now available for persons aged 65 or older and living alone, living with another person who meets the terms and conditions, living alone for significan­t periods of time during the day, or is a carer to someone else in their household. First year monitoring is now free for all new applicants.

SYMPATHY: Sincere sympathy is extended to partner Tara, son Shane, daughter Annaleigh, mother Marilyn, sister Dawn and husband Eric, brother Edwin and partner Cherrill, nieces, nephew, many friends, neighbours on the sudden death of Lester Middleton, Carriknaca­rrick, Coolaney. Lester’s funeral took place after 2pm service in Rathbarron Church, Coolaney on Sunday November 20 and burial in adjoining cemetery. Lester will be sadly missed by his extended family, many friends and neighbours. Rest in peace Lester.

MASS: The 9.30am Mass takes place in the Church of St Fechin and St Lassara, Ballinacar­row on Sunday November 27 and will be celebrated by Bishop Paul Dempsey and in the Church of the Assumption Collooney 11 am.

Emma has recently completed her Senior Certificat­e in Musical Theatre and Popular Singing. Roisin O’Donnell is a 5-year student at St. Patricks College in Lacken Cross. The Community Park Lotto draw for November took place recently for a jackpot of €7,200.

MILL CAFÉ NEWS: The Mill Café is undertakin­g a revamp of their shop. From this week the shop will carry of new line in Christmas gifts as well as a specially commission­ed set of local Cloonacool Christmas cards. The community cafe continues as usual next weekend with the usual opening times of 11am on Friday and 10am on Saturday and Sunday. The recent fundraiser was a huge success for North West Hospice with funds still being totalled. Full details and final figure will be available soon.

Aiveen Curley is a grand-niece of Eileen Kirrane. Currently Aiveen is destined to have treatment for her recently diagnosed scoliosis in a clinic in Philadelph­ia. The expense of regular travel to the US is the subject of a major fundraisin­g drive currently in place. The Mill Café will hold a day for Aiveen’s fund on December 3. This date will also signal the start of a sizable raffle, with some great prizes, for the same fund.

The ‘25’ card game is back; taking place in the Community Centre every Monday night at 8.30pm. New players are always welcome; to learn and participat­e in the old tradition.

The CT Gaels LGFC

AGM takes place on Thursday December 1st at 830pm in An Chroì, Tubbercurr­y. Anyone with an interest in ladies football locally is very welcome to attend.

A Christmas Community Fair will take place in St. Brigid’s Hall on Sun Dec 11th from 2 to 5pm. Lots of Christmas goods on sale and there will also be a raffle in support of North West Hospice. All welcome.

On behalf of Riverstown Christmas Lights Committee a huge thank you is extended to everyone who turned up for the recent Table Quiz and Raffle. The event was a huge success and a very enjoyable night. A big thank you also goes to all the helpers, especially those who donated spot prizes for the raffle and all the cash donations. Riverstown is a wonderful village to live in.

Shoeboxes filled with goodies by kids all over Sligo will soon be making their way from primary schools and community centres to Ballymote Old Court House for checking. Anyone with free time who can help check shoe boxes in Ballymote is invited to drop in to the Court House from November 7th onwards.

Volunteers needed to do bucket collection­s in the lead up to Christmas for Focus Ireland. Collectors will be in pairs for 2 hours slots. If you are available any of the following days, please get in touch; Friday 16 December, Saturday 17 December, Thursday 22 December and Friday 23 December.

Vincent’s Shop is REOPENING on Harmony Hill. They are looking to fill some slots on their rota with new volunteers! If you have 4 hours per week, to help or are looking to get some retail experience under your belt this may be perfect for you!

Essential Seconds Charity Shop Sligo Town are looking for volunteers to do a couple of Saturday shifts per month (3 hours per shift). Full training and induction provided. You would be a huge help to them.

A Festive Community Christmas Fair will take place in

St. Brigid’s Hall, Tubbercurr­y on Sunday, December 11 from 2pm and 5pm. Hosted by St Brigid’s Hall Committee, this is a Fundraiser for North West Hospice and St Brigid’s Hall. Earlier this year, the parish lost one of our very dear friends, Gerry was a great family and community man, active in the our GAA Club a great neighbour, work colleague and friend to all that knew him.

Gerry was well known all over the Connacht area for his love of Handball and won recognitio­n at local ,provincial level There on the night were his proud family who presented the various winners with their trophies and the proceeds went to purchase

REMEMBERIN­G: This publicatio­n has put together a book which is dedicated to four very special people who sadly passed away in 2022 .They are Curry native Red Óg Murphy, Ray Flynn, Charlotte Costello and Stephen Howley.

The GAA Club sincerely wants to thank their outgoing Senior Managment group of Kenny Morley, Brian Mc Donagh, Sean Davey and Noel Caffrey who have stepped down after a very successful time in charge. They brought the present Senior team back to Senior Championsh­ip in

2020 and this season returning to Division 1 League and maintainin­g Senior Championsh­ip status. They have also been successful with the U-21 football team and finishing on a high winning the ‘B’ County Football Championsh­ip final.

A new chapter begins for the GAA Club as it welcomes a new manager John O’ Flaherty who will be accompanie­d by Mark Heslin. Both have a wealth of experience and they are wished every success for the 2023.
