Gurteen continue their impressive run
GURTEEN Celtic remain nine points clear at the top of the Sligo Pallets Premier League. The silverware chasers were decisive 7-1 winners at home against Carrick Town on Sunda last. Billy Flynn’s hat-trick was the highlight for Gurteen, who have won 10 of their 11 games so far, with Thomas Sweeney, Nathan Dwyer, Matthew Henry and Luke Devaney also on target. Carrick’s goalscorer was Shane Beirne.
Second-placed Ballymote Celtic, who are nine points behind the leaders but with a game in hand, won 6-2 at home to Kilglass-Enniscrone United. Jack Hever bagged a hat-trick for the winners – to bring his goals’ tally to 17 for the season, level with his teammate Cian Kilcoyne.
Stephen Healy, Matthew Drew and Zak O’Dowd also scored for Ballymote. An own goal and a goal by Ronan Martin gave Kilglass-Enniscrone their goals.
Benbulben FC, who are third in the standings, won 3-1 away to Calry Bohs Reserves. On target for the north Sligo side, who won for the sixth time this season, were Fola Ayorinde, Jack Leonard and Michael Gillen. Scoring for Calry Bohs Reserves was Simon Fitzpatrick.
Dromahair FC were 3-1 winners at home over Glenview Stars. The Dromahair goals from Donnacha Devaney, who scored two excellent goals, and Alan Kavanagh.
Glenview Stars, who trailed 2-0 at one stage, pulled a goal back through Adam Lynch.
Unfortunately the game wasn’t finished – the referee was forced to abandon proceedings– but the result still stands.
Ballygawley Celtic had home advantage for their 3-1 defeat of Valley Rovers, who were meant to be hosting this game but couldn’t because of a waterlogged pitch in Geevagh. First-half goals from Cathal Davey and Hughie McGowan, who netted
