Poor broadband and mobile coverage in south Sligo

-

SOUTH Sligo Cllr Dara Mulvey has contacted the Commission for Communication Regulations, (ComReg), to complain about the poor broadband and mobile phone coverage in and around parts of Ballymote and South Sligo.

He said he has been contacted by many people who are affected by poor and weak mobile and home broadband coverage. “One of many householders has stated to me that their home connection is only able to provide up to 5mbps which is very poor nowadays and with secondary school going children in the house this is unacceptable in 2022.

“As so many companies, banks and government agencies are now pushing people to go online to do their business transactions that way this is very frustrating,” he said.

He said some people have tried various companies to get a reliable and adequate internet connection. “However, over recent weeks and months the signal has now become patchier and not fit for purpose in certain areas. Unfortunately, when people log onto the NBI National Broadband Ireland website they are given dates as far out as 2026 before they will be connected, and that date may even be pushed out further,” he said. Cllr Mulvey said he was awaiting a response from ComReg to see what solutions or help they can give.
