Walsh bags hat-trick for ruthless Gurteen Celtic

-

ANOTHER Sunday, another win for Sligo Pallets Premier League leaders Gurteen Celtic. The title contenders won 7-2 against thirdplaced Benbulben FC at MacSharry Park. Lethal Dylan Walsh bagged a hat-trick for the winners, with their other goals coming from Billy Flynn (2), Matt Henry and Conor Walsh. The goalscorers for Benbulben were Fola Ayorinde and Kamil Bajdak.

Ballymote Celtic, who are in second place, nine points off the leaders but with a game in hand, won 3-2 against Calry Bohs Reserves at ATU Sligo’s astroturf pitch. The hosts recovered from a 2-0 interval deficit to record their seventh win of the season.

A brace of first-half goals from Joe Kilcullen put Calry Bohs Reserves in what appeared a strong position.

But second-half goals from the second tier’s top scorers Jack Hever, who scored twice, and Cian Kilcoyne secured the win for Ballymote. Ballygawley Celtic moved up to fourth place thanks to their 3-1 home defeat of KilglassEnniscrone United. Cathal Davey notched a hat-trick for the winners, with two of these three goals coming in the first-half. One of his firsthalf goals was from a free-kick. Kilglass-Enniscrone, who trailed 2-0 at halftime, halved the deficit in the second-half when

Karl Colleary scored. But Cathal Davey’s third goal – a penalty conversion after 80 minutes – wrapped up the result for Ballygawley. Dromahair FC were 5-4 winners at home against Valley Rovers. This ding-dong battled yielded hat-tricks for Donnacha Devaney (Dromahair) and Ciaran Jennings (Valley Rovers).

Dromahair led 2-1 at half-time but they later trailed 4-2. Two goals from Donnacha Devaney brought them level and Jamie Clinton netted what proved the winning goal from a free-kick after 89 minutes. Also scoring for Dromahair in this game was Stephen Mullen.

Aside from Ciaran Jennings’ hat-trick, which included a first-half penalty, Joseph O’Reilly was also on target for Valley Rovers.

Chaffpool United won 2-1 at home against Glenview Stars thanks to goals from Eoin Carty and Cathal Brennan, who netted the winner in the 75th minute. Glenview took the lead through Jake Drewe’s goal but later conceded twice. Meanwhile, Carrick Town won 5-1 against Strand Celtic Reserves last Saturday night under lights on Dromahair’s astroturf pitch. Michael O’Keefe put Strand Celtic’s second XI ahead but Carrick’s reply was ruthless – they scored five times, including a hat-trick by David Regan plus Shane Beirne’s brace.
