Support sought for motion to tackle issues at SUH
MEMBERS of Sligo County Council will be asked to back a motion calling on the Government to provide the resources required to end the chronic overcrowding in Sligo University Hospital.
It’s one of three requests to be made by independent councillor Declan Bree to deal with issues at the hospital.
He is calling on Sligo County Council to take the necessary steps to ensure that Sligo University Hospital is provided with the diagnostic medical equipment it needs for patient care and the necessary assistance it requires to recruit sufficient staff.
He will table the motion at Monday’s meeting of the Council.
The motion is predicated by the fact that 34 (this figure has since increased to over 60 since the motion was submitted) Sligo University Hospital Consultants have contacted Government Ministers and members of the Oireachtas highlighting the conditions for patients and staff at the hospital.
It also comes at a time when representatives of the consultants presented the Minister for Health with details of the shocking conditions in the hospital when they met with him on Monday, November 21.
He is calling on Sligo County Council and those TD’s who voted for the Taoiseach to take the necessary steps to ensure that Sligo University Hospital has the resources it requires to tackle the ongoing difficulties being experienced there.
