Cartron Utd are the new leaders
CARTRON United are the new leaders of the Sligo Southern Hotel Super League. Their jump to the summit was a dramatic one as Enda McGowan’s goal in the fifth minute of stoppage time gave them a 3-2 win over Glenview Stars at O’Boyle Park, Forthill, last Sunday morning.
Goals from Donal Gallagher and Dylan Monaghan inside the opening 25 minutes gave Cartron a 2-0 lead and it seemed as if they were heading for a sixth win of the season in comfortable fashion.
But two goals in the last 10 minutes – Adam Coyle and Adam Lynch the scorers – brought Glenview level. The hosts were also reduced to 10 players following a second booking for goalscorer Adam Coyle.
Cartron didn’t give up and that winning goal from Enda McGowan sees them go level on points with previous leaders Gurteen Celtic – a but a better goal difference gives Cartron top spot. Gurteen, now in second place, weren’t in action last weekend.
Also on Sunday last, Calry Bohs won 4-1 away to Manor Rangers. On target for the winners, who led 3-0 at half-time, were Patrick Woulfe, Eoin Nicholson, Ronan Niland and Gavin Lynch. Gabriel Gilbride bagged a consolation goal for the hosts in the closing stages.
Champions MCR FC were 3-2 winners against Ballymote Celtic at Sean Fallon Park, Cranmore. The home side had to dig this one out as they were 2-1 down in the 64th minute after a second Ballymote goal from Jack Hever.
Goals from Aliou Manoh Sesay and Keith Nibbs ensured a 3-2 win for MCR, who finished with 10 players because of a red card for goalkeeper Adam McLoughlin.
It was 1-1 at half-time – Oisin Gorman’s 35th minute opener for Ballymote was cancelled out 10 minutes later by a Keith Nibbs goal.
Strand Celtic were too strong for St John’s FC – the Strandhill outfit won 6-2 at MacSharry Park. Dylan Martin scored four times for the winners, who were 4-1 ahead at the break, with Leo Doherty hitting a brace. The St John’s goals came from Conor Healy and Keelan Lynch.
This was only a second win (from seven games) for Strand, who had JJ McGowan dismissed following a second yellow card in the 62nd minute. Arrow Harps, who are third in the table, just a point behind the leading two, won 2-0 against Real Tubber at MacSharry Park on Saturday night. The game’s goals came from Luke Flynn and Ciaran Kenny.
AUGHANAGH Celtic continue to hold the prime position in this season’s Sligo Pallets Premier League. The leaders weren’t playing last weekend and saw their advantage trimmed to six points, with Ballygawley Celtic moving into second place after a 3-1 home defeat of Valley Rovers. James Mackey netted a hat-trick for the home side. The Valley Rovers goalscorer was Joseph O’Reilly. This was an eighth win of the season for Ballygawley.
The chasing pack includes Merville United, who were impressive 4-1 winners away to Coolaney United.
Tyler Stallard put Merville in front after 17 minutes and within five minutes Coolaney levelled matters through Jack Somers. But Merville took charge in the second-half – Tyler Stallard scored twice more to complete his hattrick and Conor White also found the net for the Sligo town side. Merville are third, eight points behind Aughanagh and two off Ballygawley’s current total.
The battle of the second tier’s two Leitrim clubs, Carrick Town and Dromahair FC, resulted in a 3-1 win for the latter. It was 1-1 at half-time and Dromahair seized the spoils thanks to a couple of second-half goals.
Cathal Kerrigan scored twice for the winners

NBEATEN Glenview Stars are maintaining a title pace in the inaugural Sligo Bay Lobsters Women’s League.
Their latest victory was a walkover win against Carrick Town, which goes into this season’s records as a 3-0 victory. Carrick Town, indeed, have withdrawn from the competition and all games that they’ve played (and were scheduled to play) will go down as 3-0 wins to their opponents.
Gurteen Celtic are up to second in the table, just three points behind Glenview, although the leaders have played two games fewer.
Gurteen were rampant last Saturday at MacSharry Park as they defeated Calry Bohs 7-0. Katie Walsh scored four times – she is the current top scorer with 15 goals – and Tara Phillips supplied a brace. The other Gurteen goalscorer was Katie Hannon.
Kilglass-Enniscrone United registered their fifth win of an improving season when they beat Yeats United 1-0 at MacSharry Park. The game’s only goal came from Maria O’Connell early in the second-half.
Meanwhile, last Friday’s scheduled meeting of Ballisodare United and Real Tubber in Ballisodare was abandoned after 38 minutes because of an injury to Ballisodare goalkeeper Grace Kivlehan.
Also last Friday there was a scoreless draw between Arrow Harps and Valley Rovers. Ballymote Celtic won 3-1 against Manor Rangers at the astroturf pitch in The Showgrounds.
Amy Malone’s 14th minute goal put Manor in front. Ballymote, who were 2-1 up at half-time, replied with goals from Sarah Jane Loughlin, Deirdre Connolly and Cora Murtagh.
