Johnny Kenny gets an award from Shams

Riverstown’s Johnny Kenny, the former Sligo Rovers player, has been selected by Shamrock Rovers as their Young Player of the Year for 2023. The striker, a Republic of Ireland U-21 internatio­nal, who was on a season-long loan at the Dublin club from Scottish giants Glasgow Celtic, contribute­d to Shamrock Rovers’ winning season where they secured a fourth successive SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division title.

DRP GAA elects its club officers for next year

Drumcliffe-Rosses Point GAA Club elected a new executive committee at its recent annual general meeting which took place at the old school in Rathcormac. The officers for 2024 are as follows: Mary Power (chairperso­n), Padraic O’Grady (vice-chairperso­n and Sligo GAA County Board delegate), Jimmy O’Brien (secretary), Emma Flanagan (assistant secretary), John Deacy (treasurer), Liz King (assistant treasurer), Debbie Ferguson (registrar), Austin O’Callaghan (public relations officer), Rowan O’Callaghan (coaching officer), Paul McDonagh (Sligo LGFA County Board delegate), Damien Kerrigan (pitch committee chairperso­n). The club’s children’s officer will be elected at January’s club meeting. Other executive committee members include Declan Carroll, Shane Campbell, Aidan O’Reilly, Margaret Regan, Michelle McNamara and Stephen Regan.

Ellis Chapman joins the Bit O’Red on loan

Sligo Rovers have signed midfielder Ellis Chapman on loan from EFL League One side Cheltenham Town. The loan deal for Chapman, who turns 23 in January, is until the end of next June. The English man is the 14th player signed for 2024 and the fourth new face at The Showground­s for the coming season, along with recent signings John Ross Wilson, Wilson Waweru and Simon Power.

Chapman, who played for Cheltenham during their promotion-winning season (2020-21), has also featured for Lincoln City and has had loan spells at Chesterfie­ld and Oldham Athletic.
