New Citroen e-C4 X is priced to entice

- By Declan Glynn

THE new, fully-electric, Citroen e-C4 X combines innovative SUV design with a fastback silhouette, boasting a sleek roofline from the top of the windscreen to the top of the boot lid.

The front end features a high, horizontal bonnet and chrome chevrons that stretch across the width of the car, and the double-stacked front lights use Citroen LED Vision lighting technology for maximum visibility.

At the rear, the elegant LED lights are inserted in the corners and stretch into the sides of the car, certifying the dynamism of its design.

The new e-C4 X offers a distinctive and elegant alternative to classic mid-size saloon and SUV models, while being an integral part of the latest generation of the Citroen family of cars.

With its SUV-inspired stance and higher driving position than a classic saloon, it provides owners with the very best of both worlds. With a drag coefficient of just Cd 0.29, aerodynamic efficiency has been optimised thanks to the crisp roofline, which directly benefits range efficiency.

The 50kWh battery in the e-C4 X powers the front-mounted electric motor, and provides a WLTP range of up to 360kms from a fully-charged battery. At a public charging station, using a

rapid 100 kW DC charger, the battery replenishes at a best-in-segment rate of around 10 km/min, with 80% of charge completed in 30 minutes.

Using a 7.4 kW wall box, charging takes 7.5 hours with single-phase supply or as little as 5 hours with a three-phase electricity supply.

Managing vehicle charging is easy and can be pre-programmed to take advantage of off-peak electricity prices. Charging times can be pre-set using the car’s touchscreen My Citroën Drive Plus interface or the My Citroën app. The e-C4 X is available in Feel, Feel Pack, Flair and Flair Pack trim variants, with a selection of 6 body colours and 4 colour packs available across the trim range.

Citroen has developed a complete ‘Citroen Advanced Comfort’ programme intended to provide unprecedented ultimate comfort to the driver and their passengers – all of whom will enjoy an unmatched feeling of serenity, comfort and space.

This is particularly noticeable to back seat passengers thanks to its outstanding 198mm of second row knee room and a more reclined rear seatback, while its width means three people can comfortably sit side-by-side across the rear bench. The length of the vehicle attributes to the impressive extra-large boot compartment providing 510-litres of usable space. Citroen’s exclusive ‘Advanced Comfort Seats’ come with special foam that is thickened by 15mm plus a unique blend of visual, postural and dynamic support.

High-density foam at the core of the seats ensures optimal comfort, particularly on longer journeys, and maintains this over time by reducing any settling effects and ageing within the seats.

Alongside the Advanced Comfort Seats, the ë-C4 X includes Citroën’s innovative and exclusive Progressive Hydraulic Cushions suspension system. The presence of hydraulic stops allows Citroën engineers greater freedom to tune the suspension setup to achieve the brand’s acclaimed “magic carpet ride” effect, which gives the impression that the car is gliding over uneven ground.

My Citroen e-C4 X Flair Pack review car looked striking in its Pearl White premium metallic paintwork with contrasting black body trim elements and 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels.

The 100kW electric motor produces 136hp and 250Nm of instant torque, and this enables a 0-100km/h sprint to be completed in 9.5-seconds when in Sport mode.

In addition to Sport mode, drivers can also choose between Normal or Eco modes according to their own driving preferences.

The Eco drive mode works well for city driving, as it prevents the driver from engaging in heavy-footed driving, while Sport mode provides the driver with excellent responsiveness when called upon, and Normal mode combines the best of both. The supremely-comfortable seats in the e-C4 X make every journey enjoyable, while the very latest infotainment and safety systems ensure that occupants are well catered for in every respect.

Noise levels within the spacious cabin are low, and it is impressively silent when driving at motorway speeds, with road and wind noise virtually non-existent.

The gear selector switch is easy to use and, by pressing the regenerative braking ‘B’ function button, the driver can take advantage of an enhanced brake pedal feel, and send energy back to the battery for enhanced range.

The e-C4 X performed every task asked of it in an admirable fashion, and I was genuinely impressed by the breadth of talents on offer.

With pricing starting at just €33,420 it is clear to see that the new e-C4 X is priced to entice. A 5-year/100,000km warranty comes as standard, along with a 3-year roadside assistance plan and an 8-year/160,000km battery warranty.

The new Citroen e-C4 X is on sale at Citroen dealerships nationwide now.
