Sligo GP Dr John Cannon recognised at DCU Alumni Awards
SLIGO GP Dr. John Cannon was among the recipients of a 2023 Alumni Award presented by Dublin City University (DCU) to outstanding alumni.
The award to Dr Cannon was presented last Friday, January 19.
The DCU Alumni Awards honour alumni who, through their exceptional ability and leadership, have achieved excellence in their chosen fields.
Dr. Cannon is President of the Irish Medical Organisation (IMO), the representative body for medical doctors in Ireland. He is only the sixth junior doctor to hold the position in the near 200year history of the organisation
A practising GP in Sligo, Dr Cannon holds first class honours degrees in both
Physics and Medicine, and previously worked in commercial banking.
The 2023 Alumni Award recipients represent all five faculties of study at DCU (Business School, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Institute of Education, Faculty of Science and Health and Faculty of Engineering and Computing.
The achievements of these eight exceptional graduates were celebrated at a special ceremony in The Helix on DCU’s Glasnevin campus.
