Sligo’s last game in Division Three was in Collooney

-

SLIGO were last in Division Three of the Allianz Football League in 2019 when Eastern Harps icon Paul Taylor was in charge.

Their previous experience of the third tier was a wretched one – seven games and seven losses.

Sligo’s relegation was confirmed in the fifth round, a defeat by Westmeath, and they were denied a consolation victory in the remaining rounds as they were beaten by Longford and Offaly.

That defeat to Offaly was by a one-point margin, 1-11 to 1-10, at Collooney’s Connolly Park on Sunday, March 24, 2019. Sligo finished with 14 players in that fixture due to a 51st minute red card for Niall Murphy. This game was Sligo’s last taste of Division Three – until last year’s Division Four breakthrough secured a return.

Sligo also played – and lost to – Laois, Louth, Down and Carlow in that 2019 campaign.
