Season Launch at Hawk’s Well Theatre

AN excited audience were treated to a taste of the upcoming Season at Hawk’s Well Theatre last Wednesday week at their Season Launch Evening. The evening kicked off with an introducti­on from Director Kieran Griffiths. Patrons were given an update on the current progress of the theatre’s renovation project and Kieran outlined the Hawk’s Well’s aims for the coming year - stressing the importance of championin­g local artists.

They then looked forward to the upcoming production­s from local groups, Sligo Music Society with Singin’ in the Rain, Pop up Theatre with One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and Shaun Purcell’s Mad Ravens who brings Esmeray, The Girl from the Far Side of the Moon to the Hawk’s Well stage in March.

The evening continued with Brendan Tierney from SO Funny Comedy festival talking about their co-production with Hawk’s Well the HA!HA! Hawk’s Well Comedy award. The event sees up-and-coming comedians battle it out for a €1000 prize with judges John Colleary, Justine Stafford and Gearóid Farrelly.

Programme Manager Maeve McGowan then gave the audience a flavour of other highlights throughout the upcoming programme including Ladies Night at the Well, hosted by Pauline McLynn which celebrates women who have contribute­d to the arts in the region over the years.

Production, off-Broadway musical I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change with performers Sinead Conway, Katelyn Ressler with Matthew Whitehead stepping for Luke Devaney and Warren McCook for the evening. The performanc­es we’re beautifull­y accompanie­d by musical director for the production Niamh Crowley and Sligo Academy of Music Ensemble.

As a sneak-peak of Hawk’s Well and Sligo Academy of Music’s December production of the family Christmas favourite The Snowman, the evening was brought to a close with Blaithin Horan giving a stunning rendition of ‘Walking in the Air’ with string quartet Leo Tarrant, Leah Higgins, Conor Canon and Conor Flynn from the Sligo Academy of Music.
