Sligo Musical Society’s forthcoming production of ‘Singin in the Rain’ guarantees to ‘make ‘em laugh’

-

AS opening night, February 13, rapidly approaches, the creative team and cast of Sligo Musical Society’s latest offering are hard at work to bring you a most enjoyable and memorable theatre experience. ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ was immortalised in the MGM movie of the same name, and for those who have seen that movie, you will recall beautiful music, fantastic choreography, fun characters and – above all – lots of laughs.

The director of the show, David McEvoy quips: “This is the first show that I have been involved with that requires a plumber.”

The clue, naturally, is in the title – ‘Singin’ in the Rain’.

In true SMS style, every effort is being made to be true to the script, including the effects required to bring this production to life. Shows such as this are expensive to run and SMS have extended their gratitude to sponsors Connolly Motors, Lillies, Donal Carroll Solicitor and Sligo Credit Union for their generous financial support. Set in the silent-movie era on the cusp of the launch of the first ‘talkies’, the backdrop follows the fortunes of Kathy Selden (Jaidyn Gieni) who falls in love with the dashing Don Lockwood (Matthew Whitehead) much to the annoyance of Don’s leading lady

Lina Lamont (Emily Tansey).

Don’s friend Cosmo Brown (Callum Blakeley) tries to maintain the peace throughout some hilarious scenes and antics along the way.

With an ensemble of over 30 leads and dancers who have been rehearsing since September, musical direction is again by Charles O’Connor and choreographers this year are Melody Urquhart and Thomas Spratt.

Tickets are available on www. hawkswell.com or by calling 071 9161518.

Tickets limited for some performances so book early to avoid disappointment.
