stage was St John’s FC, who won 4-2 away to Loughrea Rams ‘B’ in Galway. Both Merville United and Calry Bohs FC went out on penalties. Merville lost 5-4 on spot-kicks to the ‘B’ side of Galway’s Mervue United – it finished 2-2 after extra-time. Calry Bohs were beaten 4-3 on penalties by Glen Celtic (Galway). That game was tied at 3-3 after extra-time.

Manor Rangers lost 3-2 away to Dynamo Blues (Galway) and there was a 3-0 defeat for Benbulben FC away to Cloonfad United (Mayo). Benbulben went a goal down inside the first minute and later found the home side’s goalkeeper in inspired form.

Premier League leaders Aughanagh Celtic, Valley Rovers and Calry Bohs Reserves were scheduled to play but they each gave walkovers in their respective ties. Dromahair FC have received a ‘bye’ into the second round which takes place on Sunday, February 25. unless otherwise stated. The referee for each fixture is denoted in brackets.

THERE was only one game played last weekend in the Sligo Southern Hotel Super League – Glenview Stars defeated bottom of the table Real Tubber 2-1 at O’Boyle Park, Forthill, last Sunday. Jake Drewe’s sixth minute finish for the home side – his 10th goal of the season – was cancelled out within minutes by Ben Henry’s goal for the visitors. Ryan Downey then put Glenview back in front with a goal after 33 minutes and that’s how it stayed for the remainder.

The winners finished with 10 players due to a second booking for Lucas Sosa with half an hour left. Glenview are up to sixth place in the standings, six points behind leaders Gurteen Celtic, but relegation candidates Real Tubber continue to struggle as this was a 13th loss in 15 games.

In the same competitio­n Gurteen Celtic received a 3-0 walkover win from Maree Oranmore FC (Galway) and Yeats United lost 2-1 at home to Galway’s Athenry FC.

Both Calry and Gurteen are through to the quarter-finals. Calry are at home to Athenry this Sunday and on Sunday week, February 18, Gurteen will host Castlerea Celtic (Roscommon).

HIS is a big weekend for women’s soccer locally – the Sligo Bay Lobsters Women’s Shield final and Sligo Bay Lobsters Women’s Cup decider take place at MacSharry Park.

Tomorrow, Friday, the Shield final will see Real Tubber up against Ballymote Celtic (kickoff 7pm).

On Saturday afternoon champions Glenview Stars are aiming to complete the double but Gurteen Celtic, who finished runners-up in the inaugural Sligo Bay Lobsters Women’s League, will be looking to spoil the Forthill party. The final has a 3pm start.
