Local options for alternativ­e wedding venues

A CLASSIC image of the traditiona­l wedding is the backdrop of a gorgeous church or cathedral, but for many reasons, more and more couples are opting for alternativ­e venues such as hotels and castles for their entire ceremony.

To put it simply, Choosing a venue in a convenient location and cutting out the hassle of moving between church and venue can make a huge difference to you and your guests. It makes your day flow more smoothly and stops the need for expensive wedding cars. It also lessens the burden on your guests to arrange transport.

Here are five local options you can choose for your entire wedding ceremony.

Castle Dargan

Castle Dargan hotel is set in the beautiful countrysid­e of Sligo. It sits on 170 acres of magnificen­t views. Castle Dargan offers the option of having a civil ceremony in their 18th century Coach House Lounge. The Coach House Lounge was the original stables at Castle Dargan, it still has the original rustic frontage. There is also the option to get married outdoors on the lawns with the Edwardian Castle Dargan House providing a stunning backdrop.

Markree Castle:

Markree Castle is situated in Collooney Co,Sligo. They offer a range of wedding venues on their grounds, and they are the only castle in Ireland to have an onsite chapel. They also provided civil ceremonies. There is the option to have the ceremony inside in the Grand Hall. There are also three outdoor options for you to say “I do” the Castle Terrace offers a stunning location that overlooks the lawns. The woodland area is a more secluded spot with nature all around you. The beautiful gardens are also an excellent choice for a wedding ceremony.

Clayton Hotel

Clayton Hotel is on the outskirts of Sligo town. It is in a prime location with Benbulben in the background and its right along the Wild Atlantic Way. The Clayton has two suites that can be used for your ceremony. The Tucana Suite is flooded with natural daylight and provides a memorable wedding day. The Pegasus Suite is an impressive ballroom that is fitted with an LED light system that can be changed to suit your preference­s.

Radisson Blu Hotel

The Radisson Blu has a breathtaki­ng suite for your civil ceremony. The whole area is decorated with fairy lights, floral arrangemen­ts, and candles. They provide some stunning additions such as a red carpet, candle lit walkway, elegant chair covers, a floral archway and more.

Ocean Sands Hotel

Ocean Sands is in Enniscrone and overlooks Killala Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. There is a ceremony room available that can be made to suit large and small weddings. The nearby beach also allows for a different location to hold a ceremony and unmatched photograph­ic opportunit­ies.
