St Attracta’s conquerors win ‘B’ title

The team that knocked holders St Attracta’s Community School out of this year’s Connacht GAA Post Primary Schools Senior ‘B’ Football Championsh­ip, Dunmore Community School, won the provincial title last Saturday. St Attracta’s disappoint­ingly lost by five points to the east Galway secondary school, 2-10 to 1-8, in last month’s quarter-final at the Connacht GAA Centre of Excellence, Bekan. Emboldened by this scalp, Dunmore progressed to the final and were 1-15 to 0-8 winners over Carrick-on-Shannon Community School in the decider.

No Kenny as Shams win the President’s Cup

Riverstown’s Johnny Kenny, the ex-Sligo Rovers striker, wasn’t in the Shamrock Rovers matchday squad for the President’s Cup defeat of St Patrick’s Athletic at Tallaght Stadium, Dublin, last Friday.

Last year’s SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division champions Shamrock Rovers were 3-1 winners over their Dublin rivals, St Pat’s, who won the 2023 Sports Direct Men’s FAI Cup. In front of an attendance of 8,053, Shams won thanks to goals from Trevor Clarke, who scored twice, and Josh Honahan. St Pat’s netted a consolatio­n goal in second-half stoppage time through Jamie Lennon.

Flanagan is named in GMA Masters squad

women’s over-40 squad for next month’s Masters Internatio­nal Rules Series, a threegame initiative organised by the Gaelic Masters Associatio­n and the Australian Football League (AFL) Masters.

The GMA Masters will take on the AFL Masters in three fixtures in March – men’s over-40, men’s over-50 and women’s over-40. The GMA Ireland women’s over-40 squad will be managed by the Enniscrone-based Michael Moyles, the former Crossmolin­a Deel Rovers and Mayo star who won Sigerson Cup medals with IT Sligo (now ATU Sligo) and also managed the Sligo Minor Gaelic footballer­s.
