AThe number of hat-tricks scored in last weekend’s series of games in the Sligo-Leitrim League.

The winners, who were 3-0 up at halftime, scored through James Kiernan (2), Seamus Hailstones (2), Sean Bruen (2), Ciaran O’Connor, Niall Craig, Brian Craig and Dillon McDermott.

Merville United, who are the strongest of the chasing pack in second place, won 5-1 against Calry Bohs Reserves at the astroturf pitch in The Showground­s last Saturday night.

The winners had the job almost completed at the break when they led 4-1. Shane Rooney, Jack Canning, Eamon Flynn (2) were on target

Manor Rangers 2, Gurteen Celtic 3 for Merville in the first-half. The Calry Bohs Reserves goalscorer was Andrew Callaghan.

There was only one goal in the second-half – substitute Ryan Gillen’s 87th minute finish for the winners, who were without their top scorer, Tyler Stallard, for this fixture.

Merville’s win brought them level on points with Aughanagh but the leaders restored their three-point advantage the following day, Sunday, with that emphatic win over west Sligo’s Kilglass-Enniscrone United.

Ballisodar­e United, in third place but 12 points behind Aughanagh Celtic, were 11-1 winners at home to Dromahair FC last Sunday.

Darragh Healy opened the scoring for the hosts after six minutes and although Sean Conlon notched a 24th minute equaliser, that was as good as it got for the visitors. Paul Scanlon’s goal shortly before the break put Ballisodar­e back in front. The home side went to town on Dromahair in the second-half as they scored eight more goals – Paul Scanlon netted again, Darragh Healy scored twice (to complete a hat-trick), Keith Cotter grabbed a brace as did Adam Grace and there were also goals from Aaron Scanlon and Ben Sherlock.

lead. Declan McCormack brought Coolaney level early in the second-half but Kyle Carty’s goal put the hosts 2-1 up with 20 minutes left. Joe McMunn later cancelled out this goal and it finished 2-2. Ballygawle­y’s Kyle Carty was redcarded at the conclusion.

There was one other Premier League game played last Saturday – a 3-2 win for Strand Celtic Reserves over second from bottom Valley Rovers at Cleveragh’s astroturf pitch. The winners were 3-1 up after 72 minutes thanks to goals from Conor Mulligan, Donnacha Beirne and Oisin McElhinney.

Valley Rovers, who scored in the first-half through Callum Moore, scored again with 10 minutes remaining when Rafal Nazaruk scored.

Meanwhile, bottom of the table Carrick Town lost for the 15th time in 18 games when they were tanked 12-0 by Benbulben FC at Ballisodar­e’s astroturf pitch last Friday night.

The goalscorer­s for a rampant Benbulben were hat-trick heroes Oisin Gilmartin and Daniel Watters, Evan McDonald (2), Jack Leonard (2), Sean Kiernan and Anthony Moylette.

CALRY Bohs were beaten 4-0 at home last Sunday by Galway club Athenry FC in the Connacht Football Associatio­n Women’s Connacht Shield quarter-final.

Also last weekend there were victories for Real Tubber in the Sligo Bay Lobsters Women’s Shield final – they were 3-1 winners over Ballymote Celtic – and Glenview Stars, who defeated Gurteen Celtic 1-0 in the Sligo Bay Lobsters Women’s Cup decider. Both games took place at MacSharry Park.
