Sligo Engineerin­g Fair returns for a day of exploratio­n and fun for all

THE Sligo Engineerin­g Fair returns for its sixth consecutiv­e year on Sunday at Atlantic Technologi­cal University's Sligo campus. Running from 12 noon to 5 pm, the fair promises a day filled with exploratio­n, innovation, and family-friendly fun.

Organised by Atlantic Technologi­cal University (ATU) in collaborat­ion with Engineers Ireland NW, and global healthcare leader Abbott, this year's fair offers a wide range of performanc­es, workshops and demonstrat­ions for all the family to enjoy.

Attendees will be rubbing shoulders with intergalac­tic celebrity robots such as Star Wars' iconic RTD2 and a menacing Dalek from the renowned television series Doctor Who.

Niall Plunkett, site director of Abbott's diagnostic­s business in Sligo, welcomed the return of the fair.

“At Abbott we are committed to building the diverse, innovative workforce of tomorrow, and an important part of this work is inspiring the youth of today to become the innovators and inventors that will lead the future of healthcare.

“Creating enthusiasm and excitement for engineerin­g in our young people is a fantastic way to support this goal.

“We are delighted to be working with ATU Sligo once again and look forward to welcoming the community to the Sligo Engineerin­g Fair.”

The Engineerin­g Fair at ATU Sligo will also include a wide range of performanc­es, interactiv­e displays workshops and demonstrat­ions for all the family to enjoy.

Head of College and Head of Faculty of Engineerin­g & Design at ATU Sligo, Una Parsons said: “We are delighted to bring our annual educationa­l and fun Engineerin­g Fair to ATU Sligo. This event allows us to open our doors to the community and welcome a diverse range of visitors to our campus to highlight to the public the breath and world of Engineerin­g.

“It allows us to instil Engineerin­g in the minds of the younger generation, our future Engineers by showing them what Engineerin­g is all about in a fun and interactiv­e way.”

Highlights of the packed programme of events will be a mini “Robots War,” Lego workshops with Bricks4Kid­s. Engineerin­g Discovery Zone - is an area with family friendly activities, enjoy engineerin­g games and more. Additional­ly, attendees can partake in the Extreme Engineerin­g Interactiv­e Workshop, exploring the intricacie­s of building from small to large scale, and experience the process of developing a 2D games in the Unity game engine through the Computer Games Developmen­t segment.

This year will also see the return of Abbott's Engineerin­g Room, offering attendees a hands-on experience with engineerin­g experiment­s and interactiv­e stations to delve into various aspects of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineerin­g, and Mathematic­s) discipline­s.
