A new season of social dancing has begun at the Community Centre on each Thursday night. Start time, 8pm. This is a great chance to learn to dance and covers various dances such as waltz, quickstep and jive. Just turn up on the night and bring your dancing shoes.

The Western

The death also took place unexpected­ly on Sunday

February 25 at Connolly Hospital, Blanchards­town following a short illness of Michael John Walsh, Doobeg, Ballymote. News of his passing was received with shock and great sadness over a very wide area. He was husband of Kathleen nee O’Grady formerly of the Cross Gurteen. His Funeral took place in Ballymote on Thursday last with Mass of the Resurrecti­on celebrated by Fr James McDonagh PP Ballymote .assisted by Fr

Joe Caulfield PP. Gurteen with interment afterwards in Kilmorgan Cemetery. Sincere sympathy is extended to his wife Kathleen, son Vivien, daughters Regina, Cathy, Sarah and Síle , grandchild­ren, brother, sisters, nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends. May he rest in Peace.

The death also occurred of surgeon Dr. Bodhan Moroz, Gdansk on February 26. He was father of Kate Markiewicz. Sympathy to Kate and her family living at Gurteen View and Poland.

The death also occurred at University Hospital Galway on Friday, March 1of Ettie (Bridget) McDonagh formerly of Athenry Road, Tuam and Cloonloo, Boyle.

She was daughter of the late Pat and Maggie Jane and sister of the late Vera McGlory. Her remains reposed at O’Flaherty Funeral Home, Galway on Wednesday evening. Removal on Thursday morning to St Joseph’s Church, Cloonloo for Requiem Mass at 11am with burial afterwards in Templerona­n Cemetery. She is survived by her sister Josie Beirne (New York) her nephew and nieces - Noeleen, Dermot and Sharon in Galway and nephews Kevin Johnny and Christophe­r in New York and their families. May she rest in Peace.
