Andre Mills pulled a goal back for St John’s which set up an interestin­g final 30 minutes but there were no more goals.

Former champions Carbury FC also won last Saturday – they defeated Cartron United 4-2 at MacSharry Park. Clive Brennan’s 13th minute goal gave the lead to Cartron, who started the weekend in second place but are now in third.

James Heraghty levelled for Carbury, Christophe­r Kelly’s goal put them in front and Heraghty netted again to make it 3-1 at the break. Niall Brennan’s 54th minute goal put Carbury on control.

Josh Gilligan scored Cartron’s second of the night in the 66th minute. Carbury are fourth, nine points behind Gurteen, but Carbury have played three games fewer.

Elsewhere in the Super League, north Sligo’s Cliffoney Celtic were 3-1 winners at home against Calry Bohs last Sunday. Calry went ahead when Jack McGovern scored after 13 minutes but a converted penalty from another Jack, Cliffoney’s Davitt, made it 1-1 on the half-hour mark. It stayed at 1-1 until the 80th minute when Conor Watters put the home side 2-1 ahead. At the stage Calry were down to 10 players because of a red card for Michael Flynn. Cliffoney made sure of the win when Jack Davitt scored his second of the day in the last 10 minutes.

Last Friday night, meanwhile, Glenview Stars defeated Ballymote Celtic 5-2 at MacSharry Park. Cathal Davey’s goal after 37 minutes meant Glenview were 1-0 up at the break.

A goal from Lucas Sosa extended Glenview’s advantage but Ballymote responded with a goal from Barry Cafferky.

Goals by substitute Kaillum Burns, Seamus O’Boyle and Anthony Johnston put Glenview in the driving seat with a 5-1 lead. Cormac Meehan scored Ballymote’s second goal late on to wrap up what was an entertaini­ng clash under lights.

The number of wins so far for Aughanagh Celtic in this season’s Sligo-Leitrim second tier.
