Flynn earns gold indoors in Athlone
CORRAN AC’S Cian Flynn claimed Sligo’s only medal at the 123.ie National Juvenile Indoor Championships that took place at the TUS International Arena, Athlone, on Saturday last.
Flynn, pictured, made a fine jump of 12.51 metres on day of these championships – this was the best of his four jumps that all exceeded 12.20 metres.
Also in Athlone, Sligo AC were finalists in the Boys U-16 4x200 metres Relay event – the quartet of Alastair Sheehan, Charlie McGauran plus the Kalu twins (Kelvin and Kenneth) were fifth in the decider after qualifying from the heats. Sligo AC also had a promising team in the Girls U-12 4x200 metres Relay and they were second in their heat but a rule infringement meant they were subsequently disqualified. One member of this team, Aoife Cullinan, competed in the Girls U-12 High Jump final and was 11th.
Jamie McMorrow, North Sligo AC, finished in the top 10 of the Boys U-12 High Jump. He was eighth thanks to a leap that measured
1.30 metres. There are two more days of action in the 123.ie National Juvenile Indoor Championships at the same midlands venue next month (April 6-7).

took third place in the Junior Mixed Relay at last Saturday’s SIAB International Cross Country event that took place at the Sport Ireland Campus, Abbottstown.
