Golf Brady is second in tour standings

Sligo’s U-17 hurlers began their GAA Celtic Challenge campaign on a losing note on Sunday last when they were beaten by Donegal, 2-9 to 1-7, at the Donegal GAA Centre of Excellence in Convoy.

Wind-assisted Donegal were nine points clear at half-time, 2-5 to 0-2, with six of their seven scores having come from frees. The MJ Crean-managed Sligo, who had at least three unexploite­d goal chances in that first-half, outscored the hosts in the second period, 1-5 to 0-4, yet didn’t fully use the wind advantage.

Sligo’s four scorers against Donegal were Luke Tuffy (1-4, 4f), Michael McDonagh (0-1), Edwin Rolston (0-1) and Ryan O’Donnell (0-1, 1f). Next up for Sligo is a Group Five game this Saturday against Westmeath.

Glenamaddy win big at Sligo soccer venue

Glenamaddy Community School – the Connacht champions – and Ulster kingpins Pobalscoil Ghaoith Dobhair (Co. Donegal). Glenamaddy won comfortabl­y 7-1 to secure an All-Ireland final slot. The game’s star was Ali O’Toole, who scored a hattrick. The referee was Sligo’s Danny Clarke.

Sligo’s Lidl NFL level is won by Clare

The Lidl Ladies National Football League Division Three title was won by Clare, who defeated Roscommon by two points, 1-6 to 1-4, at St Brendan’s Park, Birr, last Saturday. Sligo were relegated from this year’s Division Three – they finished bottom of the standings with six losses and one draw. Also relegated from Sligo’s section are Antrim. The Cormac Reape-managed Sligo lost by nine points at home to Roscommon, 0-17 to 0-8, and were beaten 4-11 to 2-6 away to Clare. Both Clare and Roscommon are promoted to next year’s Division Two. Coming up to Division Three from Division Four are Carlow and Limerick. Next year’s Division Four features eight counties – Sligo, Antrim, Derry, Fermanagh, Kilkenny, Leitrim, Longford and Wicklow.

Referee Gus took charge at Croke Park

Sligo LGFA referee Gus Chapman took charge of last Sunday’s Lidl National Football League Division One final between Armagh and Kerry at Croke Park in Dublin. Armagh won this fixture by three points, 2-12 to 2-9. Chapman’s umpires were Gerry O’Connell, Joe Hynes, Cathal Gavaghan and Turlough Bruen.
